I haven't seen any of the old series episodes, maybe I should check them out? But I really don't mind the new series of SW clone wars that much. It definitely has parts where you can see some of that old George Lucas genius shine through.

There are two things that really bother me though about the new series:

- Incompetent Battle Droids - I don't really mind the complaining/chatter of the droids that much, it sort of made them more interesting characters as they recognized the pointlessness of trying to fight Jedi :) But there are these scenes that show the droids as actually incompetent for the jobs that they were DESIGNED for. There was a scene where a droid was specifically designed to put out fires in the hangar bay, but it wasn't able to keep the fire hose that he was holding from flying all around the room. I guess it was just added for laughs but that kind of thing really drove me crazy.

- Always Happy Ending - There are some really interesting moral dilemmas in the new series, like when Asoka attempted to sacrifice herself to blow up the droid factory or when Asoka's friend was taken over by the parasites and Asoka had to kill her to save the clone medical station, but you ALWAYS know that the story is going to end up with a happy ending. Main characters will always live, and though one or two good guys may die, it always turns out for the best for the good guys. Also, they made Boba Fett completely unable to function as a bounty hunter... I guess that's necessary for it to be a Cartoon Network show though...

I like the new series a lot, but I wish they could amalgamate the best features of both into a more consistent whole.

To echo what dave98472 said, the Battledroids being played completely for laughs really bothers in the new series - it eliminates the sense of danger pretty much entirely, and I don't understand why they did that. They've exaggerated the traits they exhibit from the films to a ridiculous degree.

Yes, in the films battledroids aren't very effective soldiers, but they're not hopeless retards.

For the most effective comparison - look at the first episode of Season 1, Ambush, compared to the battle of Naboo in TPM.

In Ambush, AATs start blasting away at something and ignore repeated orders from the droid commander to cease fire.

In TPM, upon giving the order to cease fire, all AATs immediately halt fire- as you'd expect fucking machines would.

I also don't like the way battles are portrayed in the new series - to decide whether one side will win or lose they simply play around with the accuracy, giving ludicrous results like one clone repeatedly hitting the same point on a wall within spitting distance of an enemy droid, never adjusting his damn aim.

Its a far cry from the badass Clones of RotS, or the original animated series.

Tartakovsky. It's Samurai Jack still got to me. Loved the action, too short, though. Meshed together better in a film length.

And no Ahsoka.
