For most of these types of people, you hit the nail on the head. the thinking is "We didn't cause it, so we can't stop it, so what is the point of doing anything?"

Obviously anyone with half a heart would tell you it shouldn't matter IF climate change was unstoppable. If you knew the polar ice caps will melt, that in 20 to 30 years huge areas will become un-farmable or un-livable, you would bloody do something about it.

These people, you show them CLimate change data and their first response is:
"Its a big scam, its not happening, no such thing." And if you press then with enough evidence it changes to.
"So what if it is happening? We can't stop it, its not man made, not my problem."

It's been near and above 100 degrees Fahrenheit most of the week or so around here. That is a wee bit unusual for this part of the state.

A few minutes ago it began to rain and the water started to boil off of the blacktop.

As long as we're talking weather in general, we've had 27-30 C temperatures for several days now and are set to have several more days of them, at least Monday and Tuesday and perhaps Wednesday too before it cools down.

For a frame of reference, above 25 C is considered a heat wave here and we tend to have roughly two weeks worth of those temperatures in an average summer, maybe a little more. So a to have that high temps for a week solid is pretty unusual, more so that the night temperatures have hovered near 20 C, which is unprecedented.

This past week in the Greater Toronto Area we had temperatures that felt like 44 C with the humidity. To put that in perspective, the hottest recorded temperature (I'm assuming without humidity) was 40.6 C in Toronto.

It seems to me that many republicans are worse than that. For them the issue is just about who's right, not what they're right about. They see political discourse as a war between liberals and conservatives. The liberals are the enemy, so they're evil and must be defeated at all costs. It doesn't matter what the policies actually are about, or what the real world consequences would be, or even who has logic and evidence on their side. If the liberals advocate a position, good conservatives must oppose it with all their strength. They do not care about objective reality, as long as they win the rhetorical battles.
