Starcraft 2 discussion thread

Well...damn. That looks pretty. The music I view as cheating, since I'm generally a soft sell on things with dramatic music - but I think it looks like they might have something fun there.

Unless there was some dramatic change between the beta and release, it's the first StarCraft game with 3d graphics, nothing more.

Yeah, but that's some sweet sweet CGI. Sure, it's not going to save the MP gameplay, but I can't fault the storyline.

At least the single player campaign has a bunch of new units and all.

I hope I get to bring down Mr. Emperor.
Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.

Well, assuming I have a computer capable of playing this, looks like I'll be getting it. Hopefully they keep the Blizzard RTS tradition of nifty cheat codes that won't horribly, horribly gimp you so those of us with sucky RTS skills can at least see the story. And have fun screwing around with custom missions. :D

For a moment there I thought someone was wishing they had a computer good enough to play a video file.

The great thing about not being interested in Starcraft outside of the bargain bin is that I can just kick back, relax, and enjoy a spiffy trailer without having to care what it represents. :)

I have preordered the game for lols. I barely even played Starcraft, so its going to be hilarious to see how broken and primitive the game is with no nostalgia to cover it up... not like most RTSs are much better.

But hey, I'm going to play RUSE. RUSE!! :D

Yeah, I cancelled my pre-order when I heard about the lack of LAN support...but I do still want to see what happens with Jim Raynor and all the rest. Although I dearly miss my Wraiths and Goliaths!

It's spiffy and shiny and reminds me that it is indeed part 1 of 3.

We get to wait...fuck knows for the next part, and then again. And for what? A Blizzard ending where the Zerg will magically eat the ancient race, Kerrigan loves Raynor and devours him, and finally th Protoss commit supernova manuver #12 to stop the Zerg...or SO...YOU...THINK! For SC III?

Really, given the derth of material that has come out since SC1, you want more then what they've shown. But I'm sure the Koreans will love it, and really SC is for them and we're just lucky they made a single player campaign.

I'm not keen for the art style of a lot of that. That 'Prince' (?) guy with the blonde ponytail looked like one of my most hated 'generic anime aristocrat' forms. Didn't like the new faces of Raynor or Mengsk, how did they both get so fat? Voices are a little off, but I can't expect people to sound exactly the same after 15 years.

Half of the cutscenes look really high quality, but then some of them look like there are bits with 3 poly battlecruisers.

Thats because its a mix of in-game cinematics and pre-rendered scenes.

Just wait for the Koreans to go to town on the level editor. It looks extremely powerful, and they even showed a level their designers created that was precisely a third-person shooter level.

I always find these trailers hilarious, because the gameplay never represents anything seen in the trailer. Awesome marine last stands? Slamming opponents into walls? Anything other than the same gameplay Koreans are waiting? Yeah, that's right.

Oh, well. Maybe Blizzard should move on to making CGI movies?

Contrary to popular consensus, Blizzard does not, in fact, make decent trailers, precisely because their art style is so rubbish. The human males all walk about looking like they're jumped up, raging juicers - it looks highly unrealistic and is distracting. And this is a style they've had for years - humans in the Warcraft cutscenes look much the same.

The humans of the TOR trailers look far, far more realistic.

But yeah, I'm not buying SC2. Totally not interested.

What is BHD?

That said, the trailer somehow manages to makes Kerrigan's capture look less exciting than the SC level where the Overlords grabbed her. In this, she just seems to give up.

Sorry, Blackhawk Down. Slowmo last stands with awful music = good, apparently. And it was played for emotion, so I guess people invested in the Starcraft story (if they exist) would love it.
