Honestly, I like what I've been seeing of the previews. I don't think he'll have quite the same feel as the MCP, but he may actually beat out Sark.

I may be partially biased in this regard, but NOTHING ON MOTHERFUCKING EARTH has the presence of the MCP.

I don't even have to fortell how obvious it is that I'll be in line one to see this. Might even herald an avatar change after eight years.

Did you all watch the trailer all the way to the end??? :D

Anyway, in a related story:
Daft Punk 'Tron: Legacy' soundtrack emerges online

Six new songs are streamed on the web

July 23, 2010

Daft Punk songs set to feature in the long awaited Tron sequel have surfaced online.

Six tracks are being streamed by US radio station The End for the soundtrack to Tron: Legacy, which is expected to be released later this year.

The record will be the band's first full-length release since 2005's 'Human After All'.

Last October it was revealed that the Daft Punk pair, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, will appear in the film as well as having recorded its score.

The follow up to the 1982 film, which will see the return of original star and Oscar winner Jeff Bridges, is scheduled for release in the UK on December 17.
Anyway, interesting bit of business with the new trailer...unlike the first movie, it appears that Flynn's son is transported to the Game World wearing his Real Life clothing, unlike his father was in the first film. Or at least an appearance of his Real Life clothing. :)

From the angle it looks similar, just hard to tell given the lines and such not. I wonder how much is still there, given the Recognizers are definitely the same, more beefy, but still the same ship apparently.

Certainly, upgrades of some kind, to be sure.

Another story...

"(The movie) is actually in 4D, because Jeff Bridges adds an extra dimension of awesomeness."

:D
Jeff Bridges Faces His Younger Self in the New Trailer for 'TRON: Legacy'

by Mike Ryan · July 22, 2010

Jeff Bridges and Jeff Bridges in 'TRON: Legacy'

"TRON" has come a long way since 1982.

The new trailer for the sequel, "TRON: Legacy," debuted at Comic-Con today and, yes, it's a doozy. Gone are the impressive-for-its-time "backlit animation" effects (so expensive they were never used again); replaced by state-of-the-art CGI that brings TRON into 2010. Also, it doesn't hurt to have the reigning Best Actor Oscar-winner, Jeff Bridges, as the hero -- and the villain. A villain that looks amazingly like Mr. Bridges, circa 1982.

Watch the exclusive trailer below to see the two dudes in action, then keep reading to find out how it was done and what Bridges said about working with his younger self.

Bridges -- who was the star of the original "TRON" -- reprises his role of Kevin Flynn. In the original film, Flynn was electronically transported inside a computer mainframe system by the evil Master Control Program while looking for files that had been stolen from him. Flynn eventually finds the files, escapes the mainframe, and takes control of the software company ENCOM -- a company that was rightfully his.

As we see in the new trailer, Flynn -- the CEO of ENCOM -- went missing not long after the events of the first film. Flynn's son, Sam, in a search for his father, suffers the same fate that Flynn did, and is transported inside the ENCOM mainframe. Soon after he arrives, Sam is confronted by an astonishingly young-looking Jeff Bridges -- who is not Flynn, but an evil program called Clu. Yes, Jeff Bridges, thanks to digital effects, appears in "TRON: Legacy" as looked during the 1980s. The current version of Bridges also appears in the film, hoping, it would seem, to be rescued by his son.

The effect of de-aging a star has been used before in films -- but not always with great success. In "X-Men: The Last Stand," a similar effect was used on stars Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, and was met with mixed reviews. But in 2008's "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," director David Fincher achieved some eye-popping results in mapping star Brad Pitt's performance onto the face of both younger and older computer-generated versions of his titular, backwards-aging character.

At the Comic-Con panel this morning, Jeff Bridges said that playing scenes against a twenty-year younger version of himself was "pretty wild and psychedelic." He went on to joke that the "other Jeff" wasn't very pleasant to work with: "Man, he was just a jerk, hitting on Olivia, eating all the carbs I couldn't at craft services, what a diva." His costar Michael Sheen added that while the movie was filmed in 3D, "[it] is actually in 4D, because Jeff Bridges adds an extra dimension of awesomeness."

Also back for the sequel, as we see in the new trailer: updated versions of the Lightcycles and Recognizers, and, of course, the return of Bruce Boxleitner -- who actually played the title character of TRON in the original film. It's unclear yet if, in the new film, the Master Control Program still finishes its conversations in the same way this article finishes:

END OF LINE.
I never saw Benjamin Button, but I was never really all that impressed with the de-aging of Stewart and McKellan, either. I appreciate the effort, but in Stewart's case especially, it made him appear almost plastic.

Is Bruce Boxleitner back as Tron the same way Bridges is Clu?

He's listed as 'Alan Bradley' on IMDB, the executive consultant for the company. No mention of him being Tron, too.

Yeah, Bradley is from the first movie. Unless the Tron character was killed somehow in the intervening years, it'd be a treat for him to show up somewhere, even briefly. The "Legacy" part makes me think he might be dead, then again, with "Tron" as the title, we might also expect to see him, somewhere! But who knows.

I rented Tron tonight. Its a great story, and while on the surface it seems like it shouldn't work, its awesome.

If you ever get your hands on the 20th Anniversary DVD and have any interest at all about how that movie was made, do yourself a favor and listen to the commentary track. Given what was involved in the production, it's amazing there is a movie at all. There is a lot less CGI in the movie than you might expect, even for the time (I think something less than 20 -25 minutes' total). Much of the film's effects are actually hand-animated.

That looks awesome. They did such a good job on Young-Jeff-Bridges CG. Imagine the possibilities in the future.

This preview did pretty good on fleshing out on what will likely happen for the movie.

And yes, the CGI for a young Bridges is awesome.

The first one is horrible, even in a bad way horrible. But you never know, you might enjoy it as a guilty pleasure. Anyway, like I said months ago; the Daft Punk leaks blew my mind, I'm itching to buy the soundtrack!

I have the first Tron in my DVD collection. Got it cheap a few years ago at a Singapore DVD store. I found it enjoyable. I mean it had captain John Sheriden Bruce Boxleitner as Tron kicking arse. How can it not be cool. :D

Well, the pacing for one.

Tron is really a movie that is better remembered than rewatched. It put my wife to sleep when we were watching it recently, despite the fact that it had Captain Sheridan and Ambassador Londo Mollari and Chancellor Gorkon. That's some seriously slow pacing.

Hmmm. I haven't seen the original Tron in decades, so I don't remember it at all. Ebert gave it 4/4 stars though. I'm getting it now to watch.

Huh, i liked it even if it did have some pacing problems and dragged in a few instances. Maybe its one of those films which is polarizing.

That said, i am going to see this film. If nothing else it looks quite impressive in terms of aesthetic.

It's my once in a decade guilty pleasure. I don't hate it, quite the opposite, but I don't hide that it had some serious drawbacks. I think this sums it up well really;

But let that not detract that I'm buzzing to see this movie in IMAX (not quite as much as I am to get my hands on Daft Punk's soundtrack mind).
