Ditto. I feel like the RTS genre has really moved on since Starcraft 1 and is better for it. But I'm sure a lot of holdouts from the old days will love it to bits. But yeah, I'm not buying SC2. Totally not interested.

Re: Starcraft 2 cinematic trailer
Trailer music like this is so painfully generic. I only recently discovered that there are actually companies dedicated to making trailer music, with in-house orchestra and choirs for the generic Latin chanting. Also kind of wish they wouldn't sell the game as some sort of action-movie, when we know that the game ain't anything like that.
A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.
At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.
The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'
'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

Nuts, since I choose super saver shipping on my preorder, it probably won't arrive until August 2.
Oh well, I'll just go back to working for my shadowy masters at the Acheron Foundation.

Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.
Re: Starcraft 2 cinematic trailer
The thought of three separate games makes my eye twitch. Greedy bastards. Honestly, is there a reason to get all expansions other than to just play the single-player campaigns, which probably won't even be good?

Saved me tons of cash over the years. It's the fast way of getting out some games by demoing a level, realizing the game is that, watch the cinemas and get a good laugh from it all.Stark wrote:You can even watch the 'story' on youtube.

Exactly. If I feel like watching their wish-they-had-spent-this-much-effort-on-the-game-movies, I'll just use youtube.
Well they are and they look ridiculous, but isn't there some plot reason for that? And yet people say everyone in gears is huge

Considering the sheer volume of those who loved it, my guess would be that large armour + large men + bad guys + nostalgia overrides the Stark Value of any given event.
But we already knew that; it's why American football remains popular.

I mean, I am one of those who liked the Starcraft story simply because when compared to the other RTS of the time, it wasn't that much of a "TERRANS GOOD, OTHERS BAD" clicheé. For example, you join Mengsk because he might be a good guy and then it turns out he is worse than the Confederacy etc. That was pretty neat IMO.
But this....I dunno. Maybe I have moved on, maybe I don't like the cinematic choice....whatever.
I am also one of those who do not like multiplayer games, so I prefer SP with a storyline.

She was fighting as long as Magistrate was there to tell her what to do.
But seriously whatever happened to the Magistrate? He seemed like a cool and in control guy even if not too talkative.

Kerrigan giving up in that scene reminded me of the intro to Brood War, only this time it sucked. Color me unimpressed. My experience with the beta was equally underwhelming. The only thing left for me to care about is the story, which, given that Warcraft III was identical to Starcraft, means I'm not holding my breath.

Not fat, just really big. That annoys me, they should have kept their big beefy people in Warcraft and stuck to realistic-sized people in SC. For God's sakes, they're not Space Marines.Steel wrote:I'm not keen for the art style of a lot of that. That 'Prince' (?) guy with the blonde ponytail looked like one of my most hated 'generic anime aristocrat' forms. Didn't like the new faces of Raynor or Mengsk, how did they both get so fat? Voices are a little off, but I can't expect people to sound exactly the same after 15 years.

I know SCII is being released in three installments, but how much content is going to be in Wings Of Liberty?
There's no way in hell i'm getting this if it's a glorified expansion pack with five missions.

Re: Starcraft 2 cinematic trailer
I believe Blizzard stated that it will have 30 missions total. Now whether that is 30 for each part with the splits included, or 30 missions total is unknown. Also a full multiplayer with some changes from the single player.Darksider wrote:I know SCII is being released in three installments, but how much content is going to be in Wings Of Liberty?

Presumably the next two will follow a close case to this one in terms of single player. Multiplayer I believe they are adding more units unique to each race as an option, but not as much has been said about that yet.

Re: Starcraft 2 cinematic trailer
Well, according to Gamestop they're charging full price for it, so I think i'll wait to see if there are 30 missions in WoL, or total before I buy it. I don't do Starcraft multi, and sixty bucks hardly seems worth it for ten missions.

Re: Starcraft 2 cinematic trailer
There are about 20 to 26 or 29 missions (some are optional).
As for people being big, I believe the Terrans have access to genetic modification technology (a fair amount of the original convicts on the sleeper ships were probably genetically modified in some way, which probably included beefier body builds).

Anyway, them specs look like what I have, minus the processor. Of course this is a laptop so that may not mean as much. But we'll see.

Absolutely. I cut my teeth on Total Annihilation, so to me, RTSs without good queuing feel really limiting. RTSs without a rate-based economy bug me, and the 12-unit selection limit in Starcraft absolutely drives me up a wall.adam_grif wrote:Ditto. Re: Starcraft 2 cinematic trailer
From what I've been told, the unit selection limit in SCII is gone. Anyway, cinematics look nice. I'll likely give it a try; I'm not too bothered if it's old-skool, provided it's fun.

This does not explain how the width of Raynor's head has doubled between SC1 and SC2.Pelranius wrote:As for people being big, I believe the Terrans have access to genetic modification technology (a fair amount of the original convicts on the sleeper ships were probably genetically modified in some way, which probably included beefier body builds).

Or why Kerrigan (both infested and Sarah) got a voice transplant (in the trailer, Raynor apparently had such a big head since New Gettysburg judging from the transmission of him, and Mengsk changed uniforms). Gotta love Blizzard's art department...
The Magistrate amicably parted ways with Raynor after escaping from Tarsonis. He's probably chilling with the UED captain from Episode V (there are UED Remnants in the Koprulu Sector after all).
