A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? I was actually thinking of Dr. Gatling, who was quite the mad inventor. The description was a little vague, I grant you.Thanas wrote:Hiram Maxim was not a nerd. He worked in steel mills when he was 14, you know.

If Dr. Gatling was a nerd, then his most famous invention is the fucking Revenge of the Nerd, writ large...

Richard Gatling was a pioneer in US national healthcare. On discovering that most soldiers during the American Civil War were dying of disease rather than gunshots, he turned his mind to, rather than providing better sanitary conditions and medical care for troops, creating a machine to make sure they got shot faster.

The WBC are sick, sick people who seem to be preaching the anti-Gospel: they're antichrists (not the Antichrist but a person who is opposed to Christ) and blasphemers.
On a lighter note I wonder if the "God Hates Jedi" person is a disciple of Ms. Traviss or one of the Trekkie fanatics who's sent countless letters to Mike Wong.

Probably neither, those people don't seem to be the types to get out much.
This is, I think, the best posible reaction to have to the WBC, mock them mercilessly, turn their whole movement, their cause, into a joke, make sure nobody ever takes them serriously.

Re: WBC protests Comic-Con and is promptly mocked
Actually, the WBC makes their living suing people that beat them up, so no, that doesn't hurt their morale. The point of fact is that the gay community got their number and the word got passed so they could no longer provoke a fight, so they went after vets. Now the vets have patriot riders keeping them away, and if those bikers get rough, it's a whole lot more painful than Richard Simmons can dish out. My guess is they thought nerds would be less effective at hurting them, but the geeks hit there PRIDE, and that really hurts.ShadowDragon8685 wrote:Wow. This is about as close to trying to troll Anonymous as you can get without provoking 4chan into a massive internet attack firefight.
I'll bet it was probably more effective on the WBC's morale than anything previously (except possibly the times when they thought they might be beaten up by big burly bikers.)
Courage is not the absence of fear, but the conquering of it.

What I find hilarious is that the lady with the 'phone has a sign quoting the sith creed, alongside the feddie dude with the god hates Jedi sign and the fact there are no Jedi. It looks like an anti-Jedi rally of the sort that Karen Travis would approve of.

I loved the sign which read "support fiction, read the Bible." Touche touche.
Funny you should mention superman and our sins. In university in the toilets of the biological sciences library some idiot wrote Jesus died for your sins. Underneath that someone wrote, no he didn't, Superman did. Followed by he died in Superman #75. Always thought that was classy.Temujin wrote:"Superman died for our sins"Bradbury wrote:I expected to see more cthulhu mythos posters.
