Medal of Honor Beta
So yeah I got it after I totally forgot I bought BC2 for PC months ago. (Bad move.)
There's literally nothing special about it. I'm not sure if it's just generic or the Beta is so content limited it's useless. It's basically a stripped down version of Bad Company 2 minus the destructible environments. Their are very few weapons in the game and the unlock/customizing system is linear and uninteresting. (No reason not to run around with every mod which you can basically have all at once.)
No bullet penetration or gravity drop. Precisely zero recoil for all the guns so the AK and M16 literally feel like the same gun. Balancing is weird and very simplistic. Opposite guns on each side are basically stat copies of eachother with different textures. The insurgents and coalition sides have no distinct taste at all and are separated only by their names.
I'm hoping the single player is way better. Which it sounds like they're taking more seriously. Single player supposedly will have destructible environments and weapon details. So why that shit was omitted entirely for MP is awkward. It's probably because they have two different developers working on the game at the same time.

Are you saying getting BC2 was a bad move? Getting the PC version was a bad move? Downloading the beta was a bad move?CaptHawkeye wrote:So yeah I got it after I totally forgot I bought BC2 for PC months ago. (Bad move.)
I didn't get very far into the unlocks, but I agree with everything here. I also found that the user interface was jarring compared to the setting. It felt like a step down and into the past from BC2, but the UI tried to make it look new and modern. The result clashed badly.CaptHawkeye wrote: There's literally nothing special about it. I also had no idea why I was asked to select a spawn position ("the front" vs "the base"), seeing as I had no reason to want to spawn at the base unless that was the only option.
Re: Medal of Honor Beta
Taking a stab at this but as in "I've bought Bad Company 2 the current best in the crop of on-line FPS" why am I getting this MWF2 multi-player knockoff?Dave wrote:Are you saying getting BC2 was a bad move? Yeah BC2 still holds a high mark on tight unlock based multiplayer combat that mixes in vehicles, statics and helicopters. I could wish for more ships and actual aircraft but considering how bad the flight engine was in BF2, best to wait to see if they learned anything from the fact that a good BF2 pilot could go 260-0 in a round due to how broken the flight model was and how inept the countermeasures were. Not cheating it's just AA VS plane match-up went to the planes without question, only another plane's cannons could down someone who was bombing smartly.
But back on topic, the Medal of Honor Beta was shit. If you like MWF2 this is worse, if you like BC2, this is worse. The best I can say is "It's got multiplayer just as good as Farcry but without the sprawling levels!" It sure as hell feels tacked on, an afterthought and poorly done. It's derivative in the extreme. It copies what others have done and does a worse job of it.

If I wasn't studying for an exam, I sure wouldn't look past BC2. Everything I've seen about Medal of Horror looks as said above; derivative. The worst part is with such a great example, a derivative game should be good!
The only bad thing about BC2 is that fucking horrible Isla Innocenta map of sniper boredom.

Don't forget the ever present sodomy by helicopter on Atacama desert. Though to be honest, I have noticed the chopper wank in this level to have gone down quite a bit since I last played almost a month ago versus what I played yesterday.
Re: Medal of Honor Beta
I didn't use my VIP code, so I didn't have Atacama. The Apache rape that happens in Port Valdez was bad enough for me. PROTIP: If Nullstark can kill the chopper in 20s, anyone else could have too.

Hmm, I guess you're one of the lucky ones. I remember helicopter gunships being more of a problem some time ago, especially as I was having a month long playing spree as part of team loser douchebag...I mean seriously, if I'm the best player on the team, then the others must be retarded.JointStrikeFighter wrote:I dont think I have ever been killed by a helo on attacamaTheMuffinKing wrote:Stark wrote:If I wasn't studying for an exam, I sure wouldn't look past BC2. I suppose the lack of gunship rape on Atacama could be attributed to the good pilot/gunner teams moving on to other games, or perhaps (laughably less likely) the community has unfucked itself enough to realizing that shooting the chopper down is of benefit to the team.

Re: Medal of Honor Beta
My problem with the MoH beta is that there's actually less classes than BC2 -- and while the assault and spec ops classes start with iron sights for their ARs, the snipers get Red Dot Sights (actually EOTech "Holographic Sights") for their semiauto sniper rifles.

Re: Medal of Honor Beta
By "bad move" I mean buying BC2 for PC. BC2 is a good game but the PC version is bugged and laggy.
I get the impression that more emphasis is being placed on the single player game. As it is it's being developed by a different team on a different engine. (Unreal) While the multiplayer component gets a whole different team and engine. (Frostbite and DICE) Who thought that was going to work cleanly?

Re: Medal of Honor Beta
Wait, what? How does that work? Do you purchase them seperately or something, or is it Frankestined together with a menu or whatever.
Re: Medal of Honor Beta
It'd be pretty simple; most games can handle startign the engine after the menu. It's just a really strange idea, especially since the multi doesn't even use the terrain destruction of Frostbite.

Re: Medal of Honor Beta
It strikes me that the project was probably wanted by both DICE and whatever in house development team is doing the Single Player. So EA is trying to make everyone happy by having them both do a bit of the game.
It might also be that it was purely a decision on EA's part to split the development. Possibly to cut time off the overall development schedule. Either way, this just can't end well. DICE has shown that while it can do a good "big world" multi shooter it doesn't seem to understand the concept of a "tacticool MP shooter".

In this context "tacticool" meaning?
