$11? Jesus fuck. You could get overnight shipping at Gamestop for that much.

compared to its closest competitors (Supreme Commander 2 and Command & Conquer 4) Starcrafts SP is clearly superior.

I still haven't finished SupCom2's campaign. It's unplayable. That's right, unplayable. The idiotic "limited resources" and "no mass makers for you!" and "BTW there's only 3 metal spots on the map" made me ragequit. ANYTHING is better than that, going back to and including old AoE mkI economy mechanics.

Spoiler
Are there any benefits of siding with Hanson or with the Protoss over the notion of "how best to deal with the Zerg virus"? Can one still be able to get all the research points needed to get to the top of either tech tree irregardless of the decision?

You can definitely still get maximum research points regardless of which way you choose on the optional missions. By the end of the game I was selling extra research points to the Mobieus foundation for 10,000 credits a piece.

Then screw Hanson then. She's not much use anyway.

I think I'll go with Hanson just for the lulz (where else do I get to shoot down a Mothership? Besides, it's what Tassadar would do.

And is Tychus really dead? The shot sounded a bit like a ricochet.

You get to take out a Tal'darim Mothership with battlecruisers during the mission to snag the last artifact, but whatever. If you side with the Protoss, Hanson rushes her "vaccine" research and everyone from her colony (including her) gets infested. Raynor has to kill her. Also, i'm pretty sure Tychus is dead. The Ricochet sound was him firing a glancing shot off Raynor's armor.

I never played C&C 4 and Supreme Commander 2, but I played C&C 3 and SupCom 1, these were quite excellent games. The sequels are that worse?

If Sc II is better than C&C 3 and SupCom, it is at least the best RTS in the last 5 years.

C&C4 is C&C in name only, and SupCom 2 gutted and destroyed everything that was good about the first one, and forgot to replace it with other good things.

Also, Company of Heroes came out in 2006, so it can't be the "best in 5 years" 8)
A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.

At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.

The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'

'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

Bet that Dr. Narud is the same entity as Samir Duran. Though you think he would try to be a little original (even has the same facial hair for crying out). I imagine that we get to play with the Hybrids in Heart of the Swarm.

Interesting. I hadn't noticed that. But if he really is Duran, how did he get that... white? Actually, scratch that. If he is who he said he is, changing colours isn't that far-fetched

Anyway, I just finished the campaign. Kerrigan's tentacle hair after she turned back human were bizarre. But I got some questions still. Like, why was Zeratul so surprised to see a Hybrid in the vision side-missions? Hadn't he already discovered Duran's facilities in that distant moon back in Brood Wars? What was the purpose of the visions anyway? There's no way in hell Raynor would've killed Kerrigan after he learned she could be magically cured. Not after how they portrayed their relationship in this campaign. And what would've happened if I had sided with the doctor over the infected colony? Would she still get all monstrous, but this time thank me for saving her "children"?

Spoiler
Maybe the hybrid had some sort of psychic presence once it awoke that really unsettled Zeratul?

Dr. Hansen goes off to live with the rest of the Haven colonists if you save her. I suspect that Blizzard will make the Hansen and Tosh missions canonical, if those two ever get referenced again.

I suspect Kerrigan, Raynor, Warfield, Valerian and the other Terran factions are going to join up to take down Arcturus. Especially since Mengsk is apparently in bed with Duran, if the secret mission is anything to go by.

C&C4 is, as stated C&C in name only. Kane is never actually explained, more retarded ass mecha, no base building, gave it a unit cap, gave it an FPS level up-unlock system that makes it to where you have to grind levels to unlock units in multiplayer, for fuck's sake they couldn't even bother to give the characters decent uniforms for the videos.

C&C: Desert BDU and Army Class A.
Tiberian Sun: Nearly full body armor and Army Class A.
Tiberian Wars: A new formal uniform with built-in armor and a new type of Class B Uniform for outside combat situations, green uniform with body armor overtop and fully enclosed helmet
What do we get for C&C4? Army Green Class A Uniforms and US Army ACUs...

More like "jacked up Marine service uniform" (I think those are called Deltas? Not sure...) and Army ACUs with collar pins for...some reason.

But yeah, that's like no effort put into the costuming whatsoever. Does "Not a Marine" even have rank insignia? All I see is some funky looking thing I can't quite make out on his shoulder.

At least it wasn't those porno costumes that the cast of RA3 was cosplaying around in.

So it is. Oh well I'll blame it on exhaustion.

He's supposed to be a 'Chief Commander', whatever the fuck that is.

Oh and I just noticed something else to accentuate how lazy they fucking were: they didn't even fucking bother to get 'Global Defense Initiative' patch to replace the 'US Army' patch on the velcro patch on the right of Col. James' blouse. Hell, if they're too lazy to do that, I know it's too much to ask for a custom unit patch and a GDI flag patch for the right shoulder and the IR tab.

Oh and the uniform? They can't even be consistent with whether they want ACU or MARPAT

This guy shows they're too lazy to be consistent with where the name patch goes, and the proper wear of the velcro collar.

I can accept that, at least Red Alert followed C&C conventions and Red Alert is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek fun.

That's a myth popularized by idiotic game (p)reviewers. It's applicable to RA2, certainly, but not RA1.

Yes, the game about Einstein traveling back in time to kill Hitler with a deadly handshake leading to the rise of the Nod-controlled Soviet Union is deadly serious. Also, apocalypse tanks and tesla coils.

It may not have had the completely off-the-wall shit that RA2/3 had, but it was by no means playing it straight either.

And that's any different than the Tiberium-verse with its, you know, tiberium how?

The first damn Soviet mission has them casually talking about the results of a poison gas experiment on civilians. Yeah, that's really tongue-in-cheek.
Also, apocalypse tanks and tesla coils.
Yeah, the Tiberium-verse had nothing like that. Oh wait, mammoth tanks and obelisks.

There's a difference between being outlandish and campy. Practically all RTSs are outlandish to some degree (Starcraft among them), but that doesn't mean they don't take themselves seriously.

I'm a bit curious to know if the manual is any good. The first one came out back when computer game manuals were almost books in and of themselves, and was similarly packed with lots of interesting stuff. Is the same true for the sequel, or do we get some crappy twelve-page pamphlet?
'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!'
Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'
