I love Anthony Weiner, and it might surprise you to know that he is actually already 46, which I'll admit makes him a spring chicken in Congressional Terms.

Like I said, I love him, but he needs a few more years of maturation before he's ready to run for President. He's got strong district support, but he couldn't pull off the NYC mayoral nomination.

Now Anthony Weiner as Majority Whip or Speaker of the House? DONE. The guy works harder than pretty much any other congressmen, and could strike fear into the hearts of weak-willed Democrats.

Man, you guys should make this Anthony Weiner guy your new President. What a badass!
As much as I'd love a young firebrand for President, I don't think he'd resonate with the country at large. Egalitarian though we may be, I don't think red states would vote for jews.

Edit: I really tried to think of a less-racist or inflammatory way to say that, but I couldn't think of one. I'm sorry.
Which red states do you need (or which ones are you thinking of)? Kerry was electorally short either Ohio or Florida. Which states that Kerry won, plus either of those two, do you think wouldn't elect a Jew?

Because - very generally speaking - if you are a white Christian American racist, you are more likely to view black people as merely backwards and inferior, while Jews are actively scheming, conspiratorial, and possessed of evil (but very narrowly focused) genius.

Or maybe it could be that a good number of people still believe that since we have heavy dealings with muslim countries, a Jewish President would be unwise. That was one of the major reasons given against Lieberman when he ran in 2004.

I'm pretty sure his support for the Iraq War was his undoing in the primaries. I don't remember hearing the Jewish issue thrown around.

I love how people have been tearing into Wiener for being that pissed off without stating the reason why he was. He got that way because Republicans decided to deny healthcare to 9/11 first responders on the basis that voting yes would also mean closing a tax loophole for foriegn multinationals that use taxhavens to avoid paying some taxes in the US. Way to go, Republicans. You shot down healthcare for 9/11 first responders in favor of letting foriegn multinational corporations avoid paying taxes via the Cayman Islands.

Jon Stewart did make a good point that if the Democrats had just had the courage to vote down the stupid ammendments the Republicans would have offered they could have still passed the bill clean.

There's enough shit on this for everybody's shoes.

I had this problem when talking about this with my mother Sunday when visiting for dinner. Usually her only news outlet is just reading the local newspaper, which isnt exactly a balanced sorce here in Arizona.

So when I brought up Weiner and started talking about what a badass he was, my mom responded with "Wasn't he the person who "lost it" in congress? I read that he went on a rampage and made a fool out of himself"

Which is what is being reported not just in the news paper but most cable channles. Everyone goes on about about how Mad and how angery and how disruptive or 'rude' he was. I have yet to see anyone outside of Keith or Maddow go into WHY he was so upset.

And NPR, last week NPR covered why he was so mad as well in a damning piece on Republicans. But overall that "Liberal Media" is once more neglecting to provide any context to events.

Next time there's Teabagger footage on tv ask her if the people on screen are 'on a rampage and making fools of themselves.'

he was very clear that his anger was toward Republican intractability. he clearly stated that they were not voting on conscience or belief but for political gain. It doesn't matter what the initial trigger was, that is the issue he was arguing against.

The right would LOVE to gloss over that because its their core political strategy. Fuck up the works and blame the Democrats.

there's no doubt in my mind what he was referring to. The example being them voting down benefits to 911 first responders is icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.
