We (Shep and I) decided that 1 megaton for Dogadishu was actually too big, so we dialed it down to a relatively small yield of 50 kilotons - not much higher than the ones that nuked Hiroshima or Nagasaki. Aside from that, the other bombardments were pretty precise non-nuclear railgun strikes to various threats. Think of it as orbital artillery support.

Well, Shep's next post will be interesting, I guarantee.

As to why the Pendletonian air defense would open up on the shuttle... honestly, stupider things have happened. Especially when they're already under railgun fire; some of the SAM battery commanders may be assuming that the invasion has already started, and shooting at anything that appears on their radar, orders or no orders.

It's not rational, but why would you expect Pendletonian battery commanders to show better fire discipline than the Sheppos?

'Sides, the Sheppos weren't actually nuking a place out in the boonies, but rather a road leading out of a city. I doubt there were very many slaves present there, what with them having been squared away elsewhere previously.

He's talking about the second series of nukings in response to SAM launches, to protect the DropShip carrying the Bragulans. When Shep unleashed multiple missiles which, despite Coalition efforts to destroy the barrage, caused 442 megatons of nuclear ordnance to be detonated throughout one of the regions of Pendleton. In a concession to being under Anglian command, the Shepistanis showed "restraint" by only launching nukes at cities where a missile launcher had been sited.
