A deliciously (un)ironic idea

Post by Baron Mordo »

We need to start a letter-writing campaign to get Enterprise cancelled. We can say that Berman and Braga are ruining the idea that Gene Roddenberry created, and it's not right for them to continue to do so. What do you say?

B&B will do everything in their power to keep it on the air, knowing that they're making fans of the original unhappy.

B&B are lost in a world of their own. They wouldn't be able to distinguish the buzzing sound of a bee from the sound of a distraught fan screaming into their ears for them to stop the madness.

The Excs at Para. might come to their senses and get GL to come in. I know that I keep saying that GL should work on ST, but that is because he would turn it into one of the greatest series of ST.

Would this be because of his vast scientific knowledge or his ability to write good dialogue? :?

Nah, just for a good story, thanks.

And please don't pretend that the words Star Trek and science belong in the same reality.

Star trek butchers science with every episode...

How's that?

I would prefer JMS over GL to make a good sci-fi series, plot and story-wise.

Corporations do not respond to public pressure. A letter-writing campaign would be a waste of paper, time, and effort.

They do belong in the same reality.

Just because they aren't in the same reality, doesn't mean they don't belong there.

And there are plenty of good story writers. IMO GL's last good story was thirty years ago. And even that Pseudo-fairytale style is completely opposite to what ST is or needs.

How about we have a letter writing campaign calling for B&B to commit suicide on national television?

There is nothing at all Ironic about this idea and the title has been changed to reflect that, unless of course somone could name in any way this idea was Ironic

IIRC the original trek was nearly canned until there was a campaign by fans lobbying them to keep on with it.....

The people watching ENT aren't mainly ST fans. They're brainless horney 14 year olds who have no idea what TOS or continuuty or plots or science. A few decomtamination scenes, a few catsuits and a couple lost shirt scenes is all they need.

The problem with JMS is he can't seem to write good stuff on the fly. B5 was great but it took JMS a while to weave everything together so beautifully. All the spinoffs have been below par.

4 or 5 episodes out 45 - if that is what they wanted wouldn't they be watching "When Sharks attack nudist beaches during spring break" on Fox?

The continuity isn't that bad (it inner show continuity is actually rather good compared to Voy) and there are a few nice links to TOS that come from a particular writing team (no of course not B&B), my favourite episodes so far have also come from these two.

There have been some stupid things continuity wise (the Ferengi come to mind) and some of the usual trek errors (warp speed yo-yoing) but the actual technobable is down from Voyager.

Enterprise is an improvement over Voyager (not that it says much) and isn't as bad as some people would seem to believe (continuity wise that is, some of the episodes do suck and the exploiting done by B&B doesn't help the shows creditability) if B&B stop doing the majority of the episodes the show may actually have a good chance of being at least something other than an embarrassment.

The problem with JMS is that he's an overrated hack whos ability to create settings and do character work vastly exceeds his ability to think up plots that don't betray the viewer or insult its intelligence. Compared to B&B he'd be an improvement but so would a retarded chimp.

The last few episodes of Enterprise have been pretty good, you guys just aren't giving it a chance. Sure, there isn't suppose to be a Enterprise that far back, but maybe Enterprise is set in an alternate reality or maybe it's actually a story someone is writing.
