Extraterrestrial Escape (RAR!)
In this scenario, one day while doing something that you usually do, you find yourself in a column of green light floating upwards and then find yourself uncontious. You then wake up a few hours latter in white cubical cell about three and a half meters to a side. In said cell is a toilet, a sink, a waste receptical, some lights and a device which dispences water and a somewhat chewy bar thing. For a few hours nothing happens, then you feel some bouts of acceleration from diferent angles, then you hear some thuds, crashes and explosions as well as vibrations which get more and more loud and freqent after about half an hour and then it dies away, replaced by the sound of footsteps and the occasional quick thunderlike crack and explosion. About two hours latter, a flash happens and you see appear before you in a starfleet uniform Q.
He then tells you that, yes you are indeed aboard an alien spacecraft, a three kilometer long triangular battleship (about 600 meters wide and between 300 to 400 meters tall) to be precise which is the only surviving spacecraft of what was a fairly intense space, outside of its parasites and a few low range boarding pods attached to its sides. As of now, two groups of warring extraterrestials have been fighting for control of this spacecraft.
That said, your not totally boned (at least now). Q provides you with with a map of the ship and about a kilometer away and sixty decks down is a way off this spacecraft, a medium range shuttle capable of flying to a nearby planet (in this case, earth) in about 24 hours. He also provides you with a "key", basically a Flash Drive shaped thing which will allow you to open doors and more importantly, allows you to turn on the shuttle and make use of the Autopilot to get you home (which is easy enough to do). There are a large number of coridors about this area, about three meters by three meters, as well as emergency ladders to move up and down as needed. As well as the aliens that are out there...
Captors-The actual name of these creatures is inpronouncable, these are the aliens which operate this ship, these are Reddish brown semi humanoid furry creatures about 1.6 meters tall, weigh 50kgs on average with four eyes and mouthpeices. They have less upper body strength than a human, but are very flexible, good climbers and can outrun a human when walking on all fours at 40km/h. The Captors have had automated ships collecting humans to serve as Janissaries for some time as a sort of strategic reserve. This craft was dispatched to collect some of said humans for processing, with you being collected, as well as a few other random people to make up for those who died recently. There are some 5,000 Captors aboard the ship which can be divided into 4,200 spacers and 800 soldiers. Captor food is, while not praticularly appetizing, perfectly edible for humans.
Spacers are unarmored and have only modest combat training. They are in this case armed with Beam Pistols with the odd carbine thrown in as well, will generally have about three or four pistol power cells on them. Spacers are disorginized and many of them are working to non combat related tasks, but a few of them are working alongside soldiers against the invaders as well as defending certain areas. They have radios on them.
Soldiers are given torso armor and a helmet offering them shrapnal protection and resistance to low power laser shots and Methane breather pistol shots and are each armed with a stun baton, Beam pistol, Beam carbine, eight Flashbangs, a combat knife, a flashbang key and carry 6 pistol power cells and 3 carbine. Their helmets also have built in radios and IR sensors. Soldiers will try to re-capture you, or failing that, gun you down. Soldiers are moving in teams of Five, save for a few key areas under heavy guard, which have between them about 100 marines guarding them.
Methane Brathers-The Captors enemies that have boarded this ship that (as you can guess) breathe methane. Methane Breathers are large semi humanoids, weighing about 200kgs, have a lizardlike tail, two legs, four arms, three eyes, six tentacles around their mouth, which has a beek. Methane breathers have about four times the upper body strength in their upper arms and human level strength in their lower arms. Methane breathers can only run at 8 km/h and can sprint short distances at 15km/h. That said methane breathers are not by defaut hostile to humans, as they know that upducting other sapients to serve as Janissaries is a common tactic of their foe, although attacking them will prompt their wrath. They also won't care if you steal the shuttle. There are some 600 methane breathers aboard the ship, all marines.
Methane Breather Marines are clad in heavy armor which can resist some degree of laser fire and a limited amount of fire from their rifles, but full power carbine blasts can get through it. This armor covers their torso, upper top arms, heads and lower legs and comes with a methane rebreather backpack. Each marine has a Multi-Rifle, two Methane breather Pistols, two combat knifes and twelve demo charges, as well as carrying four rifle magazines of both kinds and 4 extra pistol magazines. They have additional ammunition supplies aboard the boarding pods. Move in teams of four. The aim of the Marines is to take control of the ship and return home ASAP. Fortunately, they have already disabled the self destruct.
Equipment on board
Knives-Both the Captors and the Methane Breathers use combat knives
Stun Baton-A captor weapon, a 50cm long baton with delivers an electric shock of about 30,000 volts to what it hits.
Captor Beam Pistol-The standard captor sidearm, Beam Pistols are small Laser weapons weighing about a Kilogram. Beam Pistols a riged to fire semi-automatically, either three 100kj beams a second or one 500kj beam every second. Beam Pistol have a removable capacitor good for forty full power shots and can either be replaced or plugged into wall terminals to recharge (which takes about four minutes to do)
Captor Beam Carbine-Beam Rifles are an upscaled version of the beam pistol with a sholder stock. Beam Carbines have a scope and weigh about three kilos unloaded (four fully loaded) and can accept either four pistol grade power cells or one rifle grade power cell which has comprable power to four pistol cells. Beam Carbines have three settings, one that fires a 500kj beam ten times a second, one that fires a 2.5 megajoule shot once a second. It comes with a scope.
Captor Reusable Flashbang-A device which is comprable in mass and effect to a modern flashbang grenade, with one major diference, it can be used up to 12 times. For safety purposes it comes with a key that needs to be inserted before re-use.
Methane Breather Pistol-The basic sidearm of the methane breathers is an semi-automatic pistol that fires a (aprox) 5mm explosive round at 650 meters per second. Said explosive round has the equivelent of 15 grams of Trinitrotoluene. Said sidearm weighs about a kilo and a half unloaded (2.5 kg loaded) and has a 24 round magazine
Methane Breather Multi-Rifle Multi rifles are 12kg Assault Rifles used by the methane breathers. They have two barrals built in, one fires off 8mm steel rounds at about a kilometer per second with a rate of fire of 600rpm and one which fires off a 20mm shotgun. This weapon can be weilded by Humans. It has a 100 round drum magazine and a 8 round shotgun magazine, as well as a scope.
Methane Breather Demo Charge-A small cylinder with an adhesive strip, weighs 250 grams, has the explosive power of two grams of TNT. Has a countdown timer set for 43 seconds, and an red light to show that it will blow up in said time.
The cell door then opens, outside of it are dead Captor Soldiers and a methane breather marine, each with a full loadout and one has a key card for a series of stasis pods. There are forty eight stasis pods nearby, inside them are...
Four modern German civilians (two men, two women)
Three modern japanese Civilians (one man, two women)
A Modern Russian Civilian (male)
Three modern Canadian Soldiers (Two women, one man)
One Modern US Marine (male)
Five WW2 Era American Soldiers (one of which being a medic)
Three WW2 Era British Soldiers
Ten WW2 Era Soviet Soldiers (two women)
Ten WW2 era IJA soldiers (including a field medic)
Eight Wehrmarch soldiers (including a feild medic)
All of them are fully clothed but completely unarmed. It takes five minutes for them to be fully revived. The Shuttle can transport has more than enough room aboard for all of you guys. At the moment their are no aliens within 200 meters from you and there is no pressing need to engage.
Should you suceseed and get home, you are probably going to advance humanity. As for one thing, you have the location of a battlesight with plenty of alien technology floating around. Secondly, you can give humanity a spacecraft to reach it. Third you might be able to supply some alien technology and Gibs for scientists back home.
So, can you excape from this spacecraft?

Re: Extraterrestrial Escape (RAR!)
Well, first I'd wake up the civilians. Then I'd wake up any officers or NCOs present, and have the civvies translate for them if necessary. Then we wake up the enlisted men, and the officers and NCOs get to figure out how to escape, and who's in overall command. I hope that "The war's been over for over sixty years; we're allies now" will suffice to stop the WW2 soldiers from fighting each other.
Re: Extraterrestrial Escape (RAR!)
Questions for Q:
Can the aliens on board this ship understand my language? What about interspecies communication?
Where is the majority of each species on the ship?
Who is most likely to win?
What will happen if the Captors win? if the Breathers win?
Or are we looking at eventually they'll kill each other and the ship will be deserted?
How long until the Breathers reach the Shuttle bay? That would be a major advantage. Just run behind Breather lines.
Question for Zor:
How do I know the ID/backgrounds of the humans in the pods?
Do I have my typical 'going about my business' stuff on me? i.e my Wallet?
Anyway....
First, I wake up the english speakers, and tell them the situtation. Hopefully, the 'WW2 era' people will understand and except once I show them my drivers liscence, and this weeks lottery ticket/my bus pass.
(3 Canadian Soldiers, 1 US Marine, 5 American WW2 Soldiers, 3 WW2 British Soldiers)
Then, I wake up the rest of the civilians, and explain. Hopefully, someone in each group understands English
Wake up the Soviet Soldiers next, then the Wehrmarch soldiers, then the IJA.
Arm the group, and figure out the quickest route to the shuttles. We move as a single group.
We are NOT going to shot at the Methane Breathers. In fact, if we run into them, I'll go.
"Hi, we're kidnapping victims, we woke up, we know where there is a shuttle to escape home to, and have no problems with you. Please allow us to proceed."
"Also, since the Captors, the creatures that are taking humans, have been kidnapping us for who knows how long, you should contact the governments of my world. In exchange for some technological assistance, you'd find us very willing allies at kicking the Captors ass, just to recover our missing citizens. Just a thought."
I really doubt my group would be able to help the Methane Breathers that much (particullarly the civilians). I'd be willing to let some Methane Breathers come with us, so that when we reach the Shuttle Bay, we can cause a diversion the M.Bs can use against the Captors.

I've been asked why I still follow a few of the people I know on Facebook with 'interesting political habits and view points'.
It's so when they comment on or approve of something, I know what pages to block/what not to vote for.

Re: Extraterrestrial Escape (RAR!)
Do the foreign civilians speak english? Otherwise, I might have a hard time explaining to the Nazis and Japanese that the war has been over for more than sixty years, we're allies now, and oh by the way we all got kidnapped by aliens.
And why are there WWII troops onboard? Do the aliens have time travel, or are they just taking their sweet time at kidnapping people to press into military service?
I think I'll be better off than most random people since I've actually had combat training, but I'd be glad to let the soldiers take the lead since they obviously have more experience and training. I'd stick to the middle of the group with the civilians and whoever's in charge of the group since I'm the only one with detailed knowledge of what's going on and where to go.
I'd be leery of taking the Nazis and Imperial Japanese with us, especially the Japs. If I were feeling especially cautious, I'd just leave a note for them explaining what was up, set them to defrost, and leave; let them find their own way home.
The methanebreather multirifle is going to kick like a son of a bitch. A common load for .30-06 (our rifle caliber in both World Wars) is a 150gr bullet traveling at around 890 meters per second, and I've met plenty of people who whine about how much it recoils. An 8mm bullet (just a tad bigger than the .30-06's 7.62mm bullet) traveling at 1,000 meters per second is going to be punishing on both ends. A 20mm shotgun is in roughly the same bore size as a 12-gauge shotgun, but what shell length do they use and what velocity?

Neither the Methane Breathers or the Captors have volcal cords capable of human speech even if they did know english, japanese, russian or german. The captors do have translator devices, but don't feel like a chat at this moment and you have no idea were they are, what they look like or how to work them.Solauren wrote:Questions for Q:

Many captors spacers (about two thirds) are focused around about fifty specific points trying to repair battle damage and to get the ship's hyperdrive operational again. A few spacers are in odd corners of the ship trying to repair unusal systems.Where is the majority of each species on the ship?
It could go either way at this moment. If the Captors win, then things get a whole lot more dificult for you, as that means they can consentrate their efforts on capturing you again and repairing the damaged systems.Who is most likely to win?
What will happen if the Captors win? if the Breathers win?
If the Methane breathers won, things become alot easier for you. So long as you don't start shooting them, they will not interfear with you besides occasionally giving you a nod of approval after killing captors. They also won't mind if you loot some stuff
As of this moment, they don't care much about the shuttle bay.How long until the Breathers reach the Shuttle bay?

Re: Extraterrestrial Escape (RAR!)
Getting a few soldiers out might be a good idea, and I would start with the modern Canadian soldiers, leaving the WW2 era soldiers for last. Problems would be that the soldiers would have their own idea and could interfere with your plan or would take up precious time to explain to them what's going on. Same problem with the civilians: it would take time to calm them down, explain the situation and go.
Either way, the obvious solution would be to get a path of least resistance. In the undamaged, heart of the ship where there are the least captors. Using the flash grenade might be very useful to stun them and kill them before they can call for help.
Avoid concentration of captors, thus critical or key systems.
Oh, and don't shoot the breathers. They'll not help you, but they may indirectly help your efforts.
Can I give the map to the Breather soldier that freed me? Would it be useful to him? Their victory could mean my salvation.

Re: Extraterrestrial Escape (RAR!)
First I would dress up in what ever the soldier is wearing in terms of armor but cover it with my own clothes as good as I can. Than I would loot both corpses for what ever I can use and set the timers on the other guys to wake them up in 1 minute intervals one by one starting with the Japanese girls.
And most importantly avoiding the American and Canadian military personnel. Yes they are skilled but they will just tend to get in the way and want to take control. I don't want anyone going Rambo in a situation like that.
Anyone who does not speak French, German or English well enough to understand me (unless I can get someone to translate for me) or refuses to cooperate I would lock back into their sleeper cells at gunpoint with a promise to wake them up again in 15 minutes when I am away.
To everyone else I would tell them that there was a fight, the guards are dead and we need to get out of here. They are to fallow me because I have the guns. If they refuse, go back to the last paragraph.
Once I have gathered people that will fallow me, I would set the timers to wake up the rest again so that they get a fighting chance to escape as well.
I would head toward the closest location that seems completely unimportant according to the plans (say the outer broom closet). There I would consolidate with the people, explain to them what is happening in more detail and pick out a path of similarly unimportant checkpoints toward the shuttle bay.
My main point would be to avoid any location that would be remotely important to either side. This would serve as a way of minimizing the chance of getting caught in the crossfire. The only thing worse than being caught in a fight with one group of super advanced evil aliens is getting caught in the open while two groups of super advanced evil aliens shooting at each other.
to be continued...
And most importantly avoiding the American and Canadian military personnel. Yes they are skilled but they will just tend to get in the way and want to take control. I don't want anyone going Rambo in a situation like that.

Re: Extraterrestrial Escape (RAR!)
So not only are you describing the aliens who are actively fighting the people who enslaved you as "evil aliens", but you're deliberately fucking over the best-trained, most modern combat troops available because you have no fucking idea what real soldiers are like and think they behave like B-movie stars? But the Nazis and Imperial Japanese, who made war crimes and atrocities look like a day at the beach, are ok as long as they understand what you're saying and don't take over the group?Purple wrote: And most importantly avoiding the American and Canadian military personnel. Re: Extraterrestrial Escape (RAR!)
Let me put it this way.Swindle1984 wrote:So not only are you describing the aliens who are actively fighting the people who enslaved you as "evil aliens",
The red guys might not want to hurt me, that is true.
On the other hand, if the enslavers have any intelligence, any trace of it at all they will have installed security cameras and other methods of surveillance and warning on their ship.
And considering that they are fighting the red guys, my bet is that all the operators will be focusing on them. Chances are that the same goes for any enslaver infantry and defense forces.
I newer said the red guys are evil, just that they should be avoided at all cost as they will attract unwanted attention from the evil guys.
It's common sense that if someone is boarding the ship 90% of the defensive forces will be fighting that someone. And that getting close to that someone will hence put me in the line of fire of said defensive forces.
Chances of escape are much higher if I avoid anything that attracts the attention of the enslavers. Hence the elaborate movement plan and the avoiding all contact bit.
It was a metafore...but you're deliberately fucking over the best-trained, most modern combat troops available because you have no fucking idea what real soldiers are like and think they behave like B-movie stars?
But to answer you either way. No, I know exactly what they will do.
They will apply their hard learned military training and experience to find a rational solution to the problem. Said rational solution may or may not coincide with my idea but that is irrelevant. You see I think that for the good of both groups, it would be irrational to expect that the rest of us civilians can keep up with them or that they would lower them self to our level. Hence I would prefer to leave them to their own means. I would probably leave them some weapons too.
The logic I am using is that a unit of well trained, professional soldiers given weapons will be inherently more successful than my group is. Hence they will attract all the attention of the enslavers as well. And I can sneak around avoiding trouble.
They will be the ones that get half way to the escape shuttle before the enemy decides that they should deploy some security to catch the rampant slaves. I will be the one sneaking in the shadows of unimportant corners trying to get to the shuttle undetected.
Plus, even if I am detected, my group will naturally have far fewer high priority targets for recapturing so that again decreases the chances of security teams being sent down specifically to hunt me down and catch me
There is no chance, no snowball in hell, no 1 in a trillion, none, nothing, null percent chance that I can defeat a dedicated hunting party sent to catch me. I mean, quite honestly I don't even know if I would have the guts to pull the trigger when it counts. So the natural course of action is to make sure that I provide every possible distraction while making a silent escape.
I don't even know where to start here. But the Nazis and Imperial Japanese, who made war crimes and atrocities look like a day at the beach, are ok as long as they understand what you're saying and don't take over the group?
Not every German soldier was a die hard, Jew killing Nazi lunatic. Most of them were decent normal people like the two of us. The same goes for at least a portion of the Japanese forces.
(Well like me, judging by the way you stereotyped not one but two entire nations I am not sure that I can count you as decent or normal.)
Naturally if I ran into some madman who just wants to banzai charge the first alien in sight or who asks me if the grandfather of my grandfather of my grandmother might have been Jewish I would not take him along. But that does not mean I should skip on the chance to get some good combatants in my team while keeping the target profile low.
Are you aware that you are borderline trolling? Are you aware that the shiny stuff in thermometers is not yummy candy and shouldn't be eaten?

Re: Extraterrestrial Escape (RAR!)
Calling a dipshit a dipshit isn't trolling.
Anyways, what I would do is to wake up the modern Japanese and German citizens, along with everyone else except the WW2 Japanese and German soldiers. I would move the rest of the group out of sight, and wake up the WW2 Japanese and German soldiers one by one. Let the modern day citizens talk to them and try to find out their views. If you're a crazy diehard nazi that will get in the way, or a Japanese soldier that is likely to fuck us over you get a bullet to the head. The rest that are willing to cooperate will blaze a trail of bloody destruction across the ship towards the escape pod. Shoot any captors, leave the methies along. Escape into the pods, and go home.

So your plan is essentially to cut a path of blood through the ship fighting alien forces who are well trained, well equipped and motivated and who have the full home field advantage in that they have intimate knowledge of the ship, possible surveillance and command and control and a lot of reinforcements (keep in mind that they outnumber the boarding attackers even without handing out some sort of weapons to the crew) with a band of people who have no training in using the alien weapons and no knowledge of the ship except for a map.The rest that are willing to cooperate will blaze a trail of bloody destruction across the ship towards the escape pod. Yea I can see absolutely nothing about that plan that could possibly fail.

Assuming let's say half the IJA and Wehrmacht soldiers are too fanatical to be controlled, that leaves me with 31 soldiers. The captors operate in squads of five, I'd say that we have more than enough of an advantage to take out isolated squads. There are six hundred Methane Breather soldiers, and only eight hundred captors. Most of them will likely be engaged with the methane breathers. The only thing that would worry me would be the crew taking up arms.So your plan is essentially to cut a path of blood through the ship fighting alien forces who are well trained, well equipped and motivated and who have the full home field advantage in that they have intimate knowledge of the ship, possible surveillance and command and control and a lot of reinforcements (keep in mind that they outnumber the boarding attackers even without handing out some sort of weapons to the crew) with a band of people who have no training in using the alien weapons and no knowledge of the ship except for a map.

Only the enemy soldiers are well trained, so let's just hope my motley crew can fight off any spacers who try to be heroes.
