See, at a certain point, hip firing an AR is more effective than aiming down the sights. That range is dependent on factions and I still tend to wait til the last second even on Raven to start that up. I despise knifers simply because I usually get nailed twenty meters out, before they swing, after they swing and I'm not there or a similar situation.

I actually prefer the foregrip, as it stabilizes you when you move (as the description says) and helps control barrel rise. It's still there, but it tends to be less noticeable, or almost non-existent if you are Raven.

Agreed re: the knifing problem, there seems to be quite a bit of discussion and complaint (and of course "QQ moar") on the MAG forums. Then again, "after they swing/shoot and I'm not there" happens to me even with gunfire. At the moment I'm especially concerned with the game's stability post-v1.07 -- thanks to the freezing bug introduced with this patch, I missed out on a Directive during Happy Hour.

So... more worth it with Raven than anyone else? I'll give it a go when I get the chance, but I'm quite wary about how Zipper has set up the beta -- limited money (i.e. what you started with), and you only have enough respec points for a single respec, which now at most costs 5000 points, so a LOT less room to "freely" customize and experiment with gear, loadouts and stuff -- looks like everyone went the "athleticism, knives, and health" route AGAIN, and it works as well or even better than in retail. <_<

Wooh, thought it was just me that was having that problem. At least the latest patch fixed it so I can play Flores Basin Transfer.

The only two things I can think of that 'P&P' could stand for is 'Pen & Paper' or 'Pay & Play' (as in monthly subscription service), so it must be some acronym I'm not aware of. :?

I'm now trying to imagine how a Pen & Paper MMOFPS would work, let's just say the mental image of the poor GM getting stress overload from hundreds of players yelling at each other about how each other is a lagging bitch is hilarious.

I don't mind melee, it's just now even with additional health and medium armor it takes one knife to kill a guy and you can stab a guy from a meter away with no delay between knifing attempts.

Hence my continued annoyance over being stuck with SVER's Ariet SFW... and I've only once managed to kill a KP21 user and snag theirs.

If the Swipe Speed skill from retail MAG = attack speed (akin to MW2's Tactical Knife) without reducing the delay time between attacks, that'd actually be more "balanced" and I'd rather that that be kept.

Open up a second or third account and play Raven, they're giving out 500% XP in all modes of the Beta.

You're getting them mixed up, Swipe Speed increased your attack speed, TacKnife decreases the time between knife swipes.

More like 600%. :) So far I went from level 2 (post-Training) to level 7 in one match, at which point I promptly specced six points into the res tree (to see how much XP would come from that -- 7-8 points instead of 5 or 10), and after my second match from level 7 to level 11; the last match ended with my Raven at level 14, and I have two points in Athleticism's main branch I believe.

To my knowledge, the DLC weapons, armor, and flashbang device all are exploitable for the money glitch so long as you complete a match between attempts to sell the same item. Should be about to be level 55 on my retail game Raven, at which point I'll get him the KP45 to see how that is -- may replace the APEX 100SE I'm using for my basic and anti-vehicle/turret loadouts. Going straight for the KP21 in the beta if it lasts long enough and the XP gains keep staying this high (so far it's been around 1300/match for the first two, then about 1081 for the last one).

I have to say, good lord Valor is taking it hard, both in the retail game and especially in the beta. Usually it's SVER winning pretty hard, or Raven sometimes (usually not with me on though :(). Are they doing this thing where it's the other modes in the day and Escalation-only at night?

Level 58, and I decided to eschew the stealth build for an "area denial" variant of the basic loadout, with light armor, antipersonnel mine (claymore), and poison gas grenade.

Just can't decide whether to vet or not -- but it sucks that there's no weekend beta sessions apparently. :(

Respecced into a knife class with a shotty, sensor jammer, and a motion sensor. This shit's broke as fuck.

BTW we've finally figured out what the new weapons are.

Raven
The Gotha Elite is, like JSF said, an SA58/FAL OSW.
The KP21 is indeed an HK21E.
The Kinmark SRS is a DSR-1.

SVER
The Tamsen Mk2 is surprisingly a Daewoo K2.
Likewise the Ariet SFW is a Negev.
Finally the Rubakho SVR is a Sako TRG-42.

Valor
None surprisingly the M31 CIR is Bushmaster ACR.
And as was expected the M245 is an M240B.
The Sentinel M421 turns out to be the rather obscure Remington MSR.

One good thing about how the Directive bonus works (+100% XP instead of a small number like it was before v1.07), plus the Happy Hour bonus (especially if they stack!), is that even with Valor being as consistently the loser as it is, I can still make a decent amount of XP after all bonuses, sometimes ~1000 per Domination match.

Too bad that the beta XP's been dialed down, and that the "selling" glitch no longer works -- since I didn't level up before the beta v1.02 patch hit, I have no flashbang, special armors, or DLC weapons in the beta. :( Ah well, they're not what I was aiming for.

I dunno what the hell you're doing to get all that, while levelling I was getting maybe 100 XP tops in Escalation, nothing going in Sabotage... because I haven't BEEN in one during the beta.

I'm doing about 40+ kills a match on average, taking guys defending objectives out 3-5 at a time with nothing but my knife and my shotgun, and then capping them by myself. The knife really is broken, but then I do that in retail and the only difference is, effective long range weapons keep me from getting too close.

Yeah... as it is, I'm lucky to get double-digits for the kills. I sometimes get more lucky in the retail game, but most of the time in both games my points are through either resses or heals (especially from low health, as sometimes I actually get more points through that).

Unfortunately due to how Escalation works, this is much easier to do (or rather, get FRAGO bonus points for) in the retail game. Seems that many of the "Expanded Reach kills" were actually due to lag... which nowadays happens more often, in addition to "kills behind cover due to lag." Damn you v1.07...

Don't feel bad, iin the Beta I'm exploiting how broken knives are to prove a point about how broken they are compared to a build that actually uses a gun as it's primary weapon.

As for kills behind cover I had a kill under cover the other day, we were on Raven Acquiisition and on the far right side where you have the alley next to the bunker, guy went over some scaffolding and I stabbed hiim through the sheet metal used as a floor.
