Play Solo or Arranged Team. You'll suffer far less from frustration, because you know that any incompetence is either yours or the teammate you selected's.
Re: Starcraft 2 discussion thread
Yeah I don't understand playing team league with some random guy you don't know in your party. I play with my friends or by myself.

I've tried linking up with some of the people here, But I think I am missing some key ID number or something for others to see and friend me.

Re: Starcraft 2 discussion thread
I got baneling busted for my last training match, I knew to expect it, but I didn't expect to see one so I went with a depot - rax - depot wall in. I nearly had enough to push back, but I lost. They guy who won seemed to think he'd done something well and I knew that with a different wall I would have won.Crossroads Inc. wrote:The problem with quick wins is that you have to "WIN".Norade wrote:I always thought I sucked at this game, but after destroying in another placement match I'm starting to revise what I think. I'm no pro, but I can pull off a MMM with tanks and Thors well enough. My flaw is that I feel I play too passive and I could go for a win a bit quicker than I usually do.
I have lost a lot of games recently because "I" rush out and kill about 90% of someone, but get pushed back. The other team members seem incapable of killing the remaining 10%, and it eventually comes back to kill us all.
I havn't played online in weeks now just because I am sick of getting people who don't seem to be able to pull off fast wins. And because of that I am stuck in the bronze league and never advance. It seems wierd if I was in a better league, I might be doing better by virtue of having other team members who were also competant.

Re: Starcraft 2 discussion thread
Hey neat, playing as Random unlocks the portraits for the three races as well as the random one. I just picked up the Sentry for 25 wins as random as well as the Zealot for 10 wins as protoss.
As for that particular game:
I actually felt kind of sorry for the guy. He seemed to only know how to reaper cheese. When it failed he just kept spamming marines. He quit when that didn't work out for him. If he'd piled his marines into a bunker and pumped out some marauders instead I would have had a much harder time breaking through.

We should post the replay where the fuckers tried proxying my mate's base, who was zerg, 'good one guys you can't warp in pylons and cannons on creep' and we wound up bitchslapping them. Smack talk FTW

That's how it went with WC3 too... and to some extent the original SC. The editor getting more powerful through each game for similar reasons. (Dunno if much went on with WC2...)TC Pilot wrote:I ended up getting placed in the gold league for some reason (my record was 2-3). Frankly, I think the custom maps are more entertaining, since for some reason the constant unit grinding and constant fear of cheap early rushes just bugs me too much. I've taken a fancy to this "Heroes Last Stand" custom map, even if surviving is heavily dependant on having capable teammates (and until recently the victory trigger was bugged).
It's why the limits they announced during the run up probably lost them a lot of sales.
The base game play has always been shit, popular shit, but shit. It is, to me, what people did with the editors that made the games worth while. (Single Player was also a good point... Hack writing, but usually well presented.)

haha, those guys were actually terrible. Their whole tactic seemed to be to proxy the zerg base, they had nothing else.

Re: Starcraft 2 discussion thread
How do you put up replays?
I just finished an epic hour long 4v4 gamer where two of our team got eliminated early on... But we were still able to win, mostly through choking off addtional resources

Re: Starcraft 2 discussion thread
Why do you guys have number-filtered names? Can't you just change your name slightly to get a proper name? I'd rather be 'nullstark' on XBL than 'stark00.357'.
Re: Starcraft 2 discussion thread
The number is separate from the username Stark. You can see in the screenshot Spyder put up that I go by Stofsk and my friend goes by Malthraz. You only need the number to get people to friend you.
Re: Starcraft 2 discussion thread
Wierd. Is that so they can have more than one 'armourpierce'?

Re: Starcraft 2 discussion thread
yes there can be. You'll see multiple people with common names like joe where you think you are talking to one joe but it's actually another joe. You are limited to one username (which seems to be the trend for modern games) and if you want to change it it's going to cost you.Stark wrote:Wierd. Re: Starcraft 2 discussion thread
This one's a fairly simple quick game but I'm actually quite happy with it.
One thing about playing random is that you tend to dread mirror matches. Particular TvT where you can see your opponent has quite a bit of Terran experience (judging from the portrait).
The opponent had a bit of skill, good SCV production and he kept his minerals down until he was ready to push with some Marines/Marauders. I managed to fend off his first attack by piling a couple of marauders into a bunker, the extra range meant I was able to fend him off despite him coming in with a stronger force. He took his eyes off his marauder for a moment and I managed to finish it off with a few SCVs while my new marauders were coming in. I bunker up and easilly fend off his second wave, then counter attack.
I just manage to force him to abandon a fast expand and knock out some of his unit production with the first wave, he gg's out once the second wave arrives.
The humble bunker is not to be underestimated.

Yes. They want people to be able to have the names they want, rather than being forced to use leetspeak or adding numbers to be able to maintain their former nicknames.Stark wrote:Wierd. Is that so they can have more than one 'armourpierce'?
Re: Starcraft 2 discussion thread
My roommate and I got caught up in a 2v2 where all that remained was my flying command center, an scv and two medvacs (which the SCV was in) on my end, my roommate being down to one drone (but no funds), and our opponent having two black templar and two vespane assimilators (we'd wiped his ally).
By most accounts I'd call that a draw. We both had units. If an island were available I could have rebuilt (I had some minerals). I couldn't do anything to his ground units and he couldn't do anything to mine. I however gave the edge to him on account of, if I landed anywhere I was dead, and I had nothing offensive left, and logged off. My roommate didn't see it that way and. Since he planned to see his parents anyway by that point, he stayed logged on and went to visit them. The other guy stayed logged on as well. For four hours. When my roommate got home he gave the guy the match, and logged off.
So....who really won that?

I think it's also to help protect against random friending. I've noticed that the numbers seem to be random (unless there actually are 674 other Spyderizers in SEA).Zed wrote:Yes. Re: Starcraft 2 discussion thread
Man Platinum league really makes you work hard to win. I've been getting my ass kicked and only won two games in the last 24 hours. Both to zerg. The first game the guy tried rushing me with zerglings and roaches, but couldn't get past my wall off. I counter attacked with siege tanks and helions with marines. The second game went for much longer, nearly half an hour. It was on that desert map (desert oasis? something like that) and I started the hostilities by getting reapers, harassed his mineral line (which set him back some), then he counter attacked with an overlord drop. I group clicked on my SCVs and saved them, and used this opportunity to expand while my base defence dealt with the zerglings. I countered soon after with some helions and remaining marines and took out an expansion he had made. I built up an army and made a drop on his base. He had tried and failed to take out my expansion. Planetary Fortresses are stunning beasts. As for the army, they dropped virtually unopposed in his base. Combined arms FTW - siege tanks sieged up, a duo of Thors and some vikings providing air defence against his mutas, and marines helping out as well.
EDIT TvT is pretty hard I noticed. I tried teching up to siege tanks but I only had one ready by the time my opponent came at my base with 8 marauders and some marines as well. I tend to lack scouting which is part of my problem.

Aw can't edit
Anyway here's a good TvT between me and a platinum player.
I like playing scrap station as Terran. I go for the island expansion because you can build a CC and get it to lift off and fly over there. I built a trio of Starports I was aiming to build banshees at and then send them south to take out his mineral line, but he com-scanned me and saw the banshees and started building missile turrets to protect that flank. Watch how I respond to that.
