WoW: Echo Isles and Gnomeregan

Post by Kuja »

So, for those who play World of Warcraft, a new event dropped this week:

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/threa ... 4596&sid=1
Look lively—the efforts to retake the areas of Gnomeregan and Echo Isles have begun. While it's been some weeks since we shared the details surrounding these calls to arms, the battle is finally underway!

If you are of the illustrious Alliance and wish to take up the charge of retaking Gnomeregan as called by Gelbin Mekkatorque, you'll want to report to him for duty in the district of Tinkertown in Ironforge. Members of the noble and steadfast Horde are tasked to report to Sen'jin village in southern Durotar. No matter if you're a weathered champion of your faction, or are still learning the ways of battle, you'll be able to help in these monumental efforts to change the very landscape of Azeroth.

Dismissed!

Operation: Gnomeregan: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/und ... regan2.xml
Zalazane's Fall: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/und ... isles2.xml
With the new event comes new quest chains and some epic fights alongside Vol'jin and Mekkatorque to retake their respective homes. If you haven't done them yet, then go check them out.

My reactions (hidden for spoilers):
Spoiler
All I can say is, as usual, the Alliance get the short end of the stick of a world event. The retaking of the Echo Isles is more involved, more player-centric, includes Cataclysm foreshadowing, utilizes more voice acting, and oh yeah, the trolls actually get to win. The gnomes get a bomb shoved in their faces and go running back to Ironforge after several meandering quests that don't actually build up to anything except for a bunch of silly movie references.

Both quest chains are at least fun, but the Gnome version feels like a real mess compared to the trolls'; the fact that it ends on a low note compared to a massive victory for the Darkspears is just the final touch on the disappointment sandwich.

My impressions:

CAN'T FUCKING DO THEM BECAUSE OF STUPID FUCKING BUGS

Operation Gnomeregan seems to be able to bug at 7 or 8 different spots, and all of them are completely player driven. It only needs one player to act stupid, or grief, and you have to wait for a 15 minute reset.

And Zalazane's fall, has one of the mobs completely bug out at 60%, goes immune, rendering him completely unkillable until you get a GM to reset it - and even then still not doable.

I agree with you though on what i've seen, Spoiler
the entire Gnomeregan event only really leads to the new gnome starting area in the beta
. Did love the movie references though.

I had no problems doing them but it could that the problems got fixed for the EU version, though I have to agree the gnomer version was a bit of a let down.

oh and MinischolesSpoiler
they're both a build up for a new starting zone, no more Valley of Trials for troll players

Last night on Thunderlord the Echo Isles event bugged for 6 hours straight, but this morning it was up and running again.

In some ways, I liked the pre-Wrath zombie invasion better than this pre-Cataclysm event, but hey, it was a fun chain and another achievement. Maybe they'll have more pre-Cat stuff?

There will be more. I've heard the next phase involves the elementals going apeshit.

Yeah. What's going on right now is essentially the warm-up to the warm-up.

By the way, I will say that I can see how the Horde version of the event might be better or more satisfying, but as a player that doesn't have a Horde character within reasonable striking distance of 75, the Horde event was intensely anticlimactic.

The end

In any event, no one should be surprised that the troll event was more serious and dramatic than the gnome event. Just like no one should be surprised that the goblin starting zone is going to be a lot less serious than the worgen starting zone.

Have done the Ally one and I have to say I'm underwhelmed. After an hour of clicking on gnomes or to be more precise waiting for fuckwit on the mammoth to move so I could see the bloody gnome. All this for a hurry up and wait stroll through the top of Gnomeregan. Add the constant shouting, spamming and your mom jokes that players on my server think are the height of wit and;

3.9 will be the pre-event. And the pure chaos of the new 1-60 content and race/class combos. Elwynn will be full of Human Hunters for a week solid. Prep your ganking for then.

Just played through the Troll version, a lot of fun. Zalazane has been annoying as heck for some time, it's great he finally got his comuppance.

Great voice acting, great new characters. Very characterful.

Not just because Tia Dalma rocks my world, either.

It's nice to get vindication for my old troll's Baron Samedi ceremonies that my server (gogo RP servers, the nerdiest of all!) bitched about for being 'lorebreaking'.

Let your nerd flag fly, brother.(When you play a game of goblins and elves, you must admit you're a nerd)
