Dungeon Keeper II
Because I can't find any answers anywhere else on the internet, I figured I'd come here for help. I picked up Dungeon Keeper II recently, and jumped through a dozen different hoops to make it work on my computer. It now runs, without any graphical problems, but after about 5-10 minutes of play, it will randomly crash, which, as you can imagine, really cuts down on the fun aspect of the game. It doesn't give any specifics as to why, merely that "DKII.exe has stopped working." Attempting to try another fix I found buried in the depths of the internet, I downloaded Microsoft Virtual PC, and created a Windows 98 section, or whatever the technical term is. I tried playing from there, but in this case, there's an odd glitch where, every time I clicked he mouse, the cursor jumped to the right for no readily apparent reason. Now, it's entirely possible that no one here will have any idea how to solve either of these issues, but I figured I'd ask anyways.

Vista?
I've heard it runs on Win7... but I'm in a similar boat on Vista. Though mine manages 15-30 minutes.

DK2 works fine for me on 7 once you go through the compatibility. Nvidia finally fixed their driver support so shit like DK2 and Kohan work without video issues.
Re: Dungeon Keeper II
I have Windows 7, and I run it in compatibility, without graphics problems... but I still get the random crashes. It's really bothering me that it doesn't even give me a technical error message telling me exactly what went wrong, because then, I could just google it. Instead, I just get a generic message, and I can't figure out exactly what's wrong with it.
And system wise, I have Windows 7 64 bit, an Intel Core i7 processor, and a Radeon HD 5770.
Edit: An exact quote of the error message I get: "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if there is a solution to the problem."

What are your compat settings? I'm just using XP sp2. It doesn't really involve any hoops to get it going, and if you're on ATi you would never have seen the horrific z-buffer problems anyway. Are you using 1.07?
Re: Dungeon Keeper II
I am using 1.07, and I had my comparability set to Win98, and just now, tried it in Win XP sp2. Both work fine, for a while, but after, at best, a half hour, I'll click on something, or try to do something, like save, and it will go black and crash.
Re: Dungeon Keeper II
have you tried using the Taskmanger to 'end process' on anything you have loaded that you don't need? I've found with DK + DK2, on Windows XP anyway, that's usually the answer to crashing problems.
I wish Bullfrog still supported Dungeon Keeper. I loved that series.

I've been asked why I still follow a few of the people I know on Facebook with 'interesting political habits and view points'.
It's so when they comment on or approve of something, I know what pages to block/what not to vote for.

Re: Dungeon Keeper II
Well, I installed it on my new laptop, an older model that I just completely reformatted. On the laptop, it doesn't seem to have very many problems. It still crashes occasionally, but not nearly as regularly. The annoying part is that it only seems to crash when I go to save - not all the times I try to save, but some of them. Regardless, it's still a step in the right direction.
Re: Dungeon Keeper II
I just played around for a few hours with no crashes. I guess ATi has worse shit old game support than nvidia these days.
