If you want to see just what a deranged character O'Donnell is, check out this clip from Bill Maher's old show. Back in 1998, when the Right was using Bill Clinton's cock as a focus of mass hysteria (instead of Brown People), O'Donnell was on a tirade about how any kind of lie was unacceptable, whether it was about getting blown by an intern or...
... telling the Nazis that you're not hiding Jews when you are!
So she'd rather ship Jews off to be gassed than lie to a Nazi, because that's like, disrespectful.

Oh my god, that video.
She is a REAL piece of work. My gosh.
If we accept sin, our nation will fall!
The sad thing is...there was a time I thought that too. I was, however, okay with lying about hiding Jews.
Now, after watching that clip, here is something that has been bothering me: I'm not a male, but it seems like O'Donnell and Palin have, well, sex appeal. I'm going to guess that if O'Donnell looked more average, or even homely, she wouldn't have won this race. Similarly, if Palin had looked homely, she wouldn't have gotten picked for VP candidate. Am I wrong? This bothers me! I can't put my finger on exactly why, but it really, really bothers me. Candidates should be chosen and put forward based on their views and abilities, not their looks.
Promoting women based in any way on looks (beyond basic personal hygiene) rather than on their views is offensive to me. I felt this way back in 2008; there are plenty of well qualified conservative Republican women McCain could have chosen, but instead he picked the ones with the looks but not the qualifications. It felt like a slap in the face.

That's pretty funny in a completely surreal way. I wonder what people like her think if they think at all. She's catholic but I don't think even the Roman Catholic Church forbids lying if the purpose is to prevent death or serious bodily harm to another person. Perhaps it's just an act and she actually does not believe in any of that, but considering that she has been spouting that nonsense since 1990s, long before such extreme right wing notions had traction in mainstream American politics, it might be real.Elfdart wrote: So she'd rather ship Jews off to be gassed than lie to a Nazi, because that's like, disrespectful.

Of course politicians utilizing their good looks is nothing new and male politicians have been doing it for a long time. I am quite certain that for example Bill Clinton was not at all hurt by his charismatic looks, and then there were the assassinated members of the Kennedy clan. Good looks are not an automatic pass for political success, but they certainly do help, especially since TV became the primary media for campaigning.

Of course, having high definition TV tends to ruin the good looking effect for a lot of politicians.

Rather ironic that she was (is?) so against Masterbation since Im sure she's inspired many a young republican (and perhaps some liberals ) to beat one off.
That clip from PI is absurd though. Im glad Eddie Izzard took her to task on those ridiculous statements.

That would be consistent with Christian ethics. (More generally, whenever the moral system insists that following the rules maximizes outcomes --- e.g., "God makes all things work together with good" --- deontology is equivalent to utilitarianism.)RedImperator wrote:Maybe she's a strict deontologist.

There is, but Rove has made a lot of sense when it comes to these far-right candidates. I shudder to think that Rove is suddenly a moderate. Granted, there is a fair bit of hypocrisy involved, but still.

Re: Unknown TeaParty candidate upsets nine term GOP favorite
There's a difference between a "moderate" and a "voice of moderation." My impression of Rove is that he's strongly oriented towards winning at all costs, towards scoring the maximum number of points for his team, which happens to be the Republicans.
To that mindset, watching the Tea Party calve off the larger Republican movement has to be a nightmare. Tactically, they're inept; ideologically, they're lunatics. They're only going to hurt the Party's chances, and Rove is smart enough to know that.
But that doesn't put Rove at the center of American politics. It just puts him somewhere to the left of the Tea Party. Or possibly not to the left of the Tea Party at all. He may just be tactically savvy enough to remember Bismarck's "politics is the art of the possible," and recognize that the Tea Party isn't possible.

Moderate for a republican, which should have been clear from the context anyway.
Also, I think he may be feeling a bit bitter because he was all in favor of embracing the tea party when it helped the GOP.

Rove is a human skidmark on the underpants of the American polity, but he also knows what the fuck he's doing. Mike Castle might not have been ideologically pure, but he would have voted for Republicans in Senate leadership positions and supported them in filibusters. Who gives a shit if the junior senator from Delaware votes for stem cells if Mitch McConnell is the majority leader?
The teabaggers threw that away in favor of an amateur candidate who lost to Joe Biden by 30 points two years ago, and is almost certainly going to lose to Chris Coons this year. Since just about every scenario for the GOP recapturing the Senate was contingent on Mike Castle winning his race, that has just become a lot less likely as well.

Re: Unknown TeaParty candidate upsets nine term GOP favorite
Had you been in college with Christine O'Donnell back in the early 90's, you may very well have had an opportunity to drill O'Donnell like an Arab looking for oil. The rumor is that the reason she's so loony and Jesusy today is because she was a filthy whore her first few years in college. Her behavior is a reaction to having random, meaningless sex with lots and lots of guys. Which, not surprisingly, makes a whole lot of sense when you think about Christian preachers crusading against homosexuality who love to get pounded in the ass by gay hookers behind closed doors.Phantasee wrote:Liberty: I just wanted to confirm that, yes, they are hot.
