Two armies approach the field of battle. Under the constant rithm of wardrums being beaten, the troops line up on opposite ends. Between them, exactly in the mid, stands the very reason they have come: the old king. The army that captures him, takes his crown, will have conquered the throne.
Fanfares blare, sounding the order to attack. The army readies their catapults: giant tree trunks are hoisted into the giant contraptions... and with an enormous whoosh they are launched, one after the other.
The trunks tumble and roll in the air,... arcing first up, reaching the high point, then arcing down. They pick up speed during their race to the ground - and to the enemy cowering below. Like the fists of an angry god the trees crash into the lines of infantry, smashing the lucky outright, flinging the most unlucky far, but not so far that they do not suffer a long and painfull death.
The bombardment relents, but they aren't out of the woods yet. For the real terror is just beginning: the dead rise again. Undead, uncaring, unloving, they attack their former comrades.
There is only one recourse: luring them onto the catapults, hauling them far through the air, to get them as far away from the army as possible.
Behind the advancing lines of undead, the enemies catapults dare to line up far more forward without much fear of coming under infantry attack themselves. Clearly, the formerly loyal troops have to be cut down as fast as can be done. With a heavy heart, the army prepares its own catapults....
So yeah, Kubb is a very dark and bloody game.
