Let's Play X-COM Terror from the Deep

Director's Log
01.02.2070 0800 GMT

We have begun seeing an unknown threat over the last few years and the UN has re-activated X-COM to investigate and, if necessary, eliminate it. Our first base is set up between Greenland and Iceland. The details are murky, but it seems this place has already inhabited.
ImageImage
As per X-COM regulations, soldiers Edi, Torben and weemadando have been re-activated from cryo-suspension. Because of the new environment we are working in, they're having to relearn everything over again. Thankfully, Director Toyotomi's recommendations were implemented in the new base as we had all hangars on one side of the base and containment has already been built. We have a full research staff of 50 and they've completed several projects, namely a med-kit that can be used under water and several steps into Gauss weaponry.
Gauss weaponry is derivative of the plasma tech we recovered from the first alien invasion, but we don't know how well it works underwater. Elerium dissolves in water, so we're concerned about the weapon's efficiency.
ImageImageImage
We had contacts practically out of the starting gate. The first encounter was on January 1st:
ADDENDUM: MISSION TRANSCRIPT
Image
Galina: I'm out going outside. I see something over there. Firing ::harpoon shots:: Missed it.
Image
weemadando: ::belches:: Oh, come on! Do I have to carry this team myself? ::harpoon shots:: Nailed it! Just stunned it, though.
Image
Edi: Ando, have you been drinking?
weemadando: What's it to you?
Command: Sector appears clear.
weemadando: That's it?! We came out here for ONE alien?!
TRANSCRIPT END
Upon physical inspection, we saw that the creature was remarkably similar to a Sectoid, but with several aquatic adaptations such as gills and fins. Science has yet to delve more thoroughly, but have dubbed it an Aquatoid for reference. Weemadando made ensign after that mission.
Our next encounter was on the 17th. We added more people and a gas cannon model Coelocanth tank. We had our first casualty, Deborah, on this mission. She managed to hit an Aquatoid with a harpoon, but not enough to kill it. The tank acquitted itself with two kills. One was not intentional; the tank was aiming for one and managed to kill another one close by.
Image
We got a bit of a clear sighting of the alien craft on this mission:
Image
The design is much different from the ones of the first invasion. We'll need to do more examination.
The third encounter provided us with a much larger craft, but it was again Aquatoids. We lost Quentin on this mission. Tank killed two more, but there was more spread with this one. With the influx of new recruits, Ando is now a lieutenant and Edi and Lord Relevenous were made ensigns.
Image
Image
The aliens launched a terror mission on Panama on the 25th and we quickly responded with the mission team leaving just as a batch of new guys came in. This time, we encountered new species, pictured here:
ImageImage
Science has dubbed the green reptilians "Gill Men" and the pale humanoids "Deep Ones". Live and dead versions are sitting in containment for study. This mission was much different from the first invasion as the creatures show a propensity for hiding in strange corners. We've been made aware of a potential security risks. The mission team reports that crates with X-COM labels were in plain sight as they were clearing the port.
All in all, a good start. The funders are happy and we have more money coming in. However, there is still a long way to go for us.

END OF LOG

I'll take a role, whereever you need to put a name. Pilot preferably.

Reporting in for any old role you need someone with a name for sir!
This odyssey, this, exodus. Do we journey toward the promised land, or into the valley of the kings? Three decades ago I envisioned a new future for our species, and now that we are on the brink of realizing my dream, I feel only solitude, and regret. Has my entire life's work been a fool's crusade? Have I led my people into this desert, only to die?

I love TFTD (I prefer it to UFO actually) so throw me to the deep please, non specific trooper please!

Tops tips from my last run is to get the thermal shok launcher asap and try and avoid terror attacks at night, so try and time landing there during the day. Oh and make sure you follow the links posted earlier if you research things in the wrong order you can't win the game.

Also put a few hours aside for the shipping lane attacks sometimes it can turn into hide and sneak unless you take a very step by step approach clearing each deck.
