Catholic Geocentric Conference to be held this November

Post by Liberty »

And here is the Conference's website:

For a snapshot of said conference, here is the flier:

I have not found any indication that this is a farce. I didn't realize people still broadcast this belief! I had heard that geocentrists existed, but this is more than I had realized. And it's being held in South Bend, Indiana. I've lived in Indiana since I was four. That makes up close and personal somehow.

Oh, and I found out that Rousas Rushdoony was a geocentrist. Says a lot about the Chalcedon Foundation, doesn't it?

To be (grudgingly) fair to the Catholic Church, the cranks assembled for this conference have zero authority to speak for the Church or define doctrine.

:banghead:

Not this again...at least it's not the Flat Earth Society going totally organized.

Still don't get why these guys are so hell bent on this conspiracy. Centuries of study by hundreds, if not thousands, of scientists, in addition to quantifiable evidence for a solar-centric system should be a lot more than enough for a convincing argument.

Since the Pope held a speech on October 31st, 1992 in which he rehabilitated Galileo officially - thus officially accepting helicentrism, these people are speaking against church doctrine.
A minute's thought suggests that the very idea of this is stupid. A more detailed examination raises the possibility that it might be an answer to the question "how could the Germans win the war after the US gets involved?" - Captain Seafort, in a thread proposing a 1942 'D-Day' in Quiberon Bay

I didn't spot anything to confirm it but maybe these people are in that category of Catholics who reject Vatican II, the non-Latin Mass, the falsity of the Blood Libel, and all that other derned muddern foolin' with the faith that came in in the 1960s...

...a grudging 1992 admission by the pontiff that Galileo was correct (how big of the church, to admit to that) probably wouldn't cut much ice with these types.

Yeah, I guess right now the real Church is too busy with bitching about in vitro fertilisation (like they have any authority about reproduction and sexuality to begin with).

I was thinking more along the lines of papal infallibility or ecumenical councils, not the moral authority of the church in society (which is obviously very compromised).

Hey, it's not like two weeks of observation with a decent telescope will bring one to the one unescapable conclusion about the matter, right? There has to be a conspiracy :D

Not to mention we went up and took a look, but I guess you can dismiss that by saying all space agencies everywhere are in on the conspiracy.

Remember epicycles? Just keep adding 'em as needed, ad infinitum, to keep shoehorning observations into your pre-ordained cosmological model and - hey, look! Everything *is* going around the Earth!

Godless slide-rule-stroking space-agency types - of course they're in on the conspiracy! Half of 'em are Commies anyway.

Buzz Aldrin is a godless commie now? Well, I guess you could try to make a case that all non-catolics are godless ;)

YOU STUPID MOON! I WALKED ON YOUR FACE!

I suppose that if I were a Catholic that's the sort of argument I might try to make...
