Transformers 3 now has a title

Post by Whiplash »

Transformers: The Dark of the Moon (in 3D)

I can't believe they actually managed to come up with a title worse than 'The Box'.

http://www.collider.com/2010/10/06/tran ... n/?_r=true
Transformers 3 now has its official title and that title is: Transformers: The Dark of the Moon. TFW2005 first discovered the title through the listing of some upcoming movie tie-in novels, “Transformers: The Dark of the Moon – Secret of the Autobots“, “Transformers: The Dark of the Moon – Autobots Betrayed!“, and “Transformers: The Dark of the Moon: Invasion of the Decepticons” (all three novels are set to be released on May 17, 2011). We have now confirmed the title with sources close to the production. Nothing is known about the plot of the third film and the title doesn’t really provide any hints. Personally, I think the title “The Dark of the Moon” would work just as well for a sexy R&B album.

Transformers: The Dark of the Moon is in 3D, directed by Michael Bay, and stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Alan Tudyk, Ken Jeong, Patrick Dempsey, and John Malkovich. Hit the jump for a brief recap on what we know so far about the film, which opens July 1, 2011.
Still no plot details, but I didn't want to necro the villain thread.

Well, that was unexpected. :wtf: Er...I hope it'll make sense in context--wait, it's gonna be Unicron! :D

Wash! That's news to me, and welcome news at that. I skipped the second movie, but hey, I'm always down for a leaf on the wind. And if it ends up giving us Unicron to boot, hey, two-for-one.

Transformers 3, now with more ghetto-bots and giant robo-testicles!

Yawn, rental.
"The 4th Earl of Hereford led the fight on the bridge, but he and his men were caught in the arrow fire. Then one of de Harclay's pikemen, concealed beneath the bridge, thrust upwards between the planks and skewered the Earl of Hereford through the anus, twisting the head of the iron pike into his intestines. His dying screams turned the advance into a panic."'

Chances humans have a small secondary roll? *looks at Shia LaBeouf in cast list* Probably zilch. :|
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Sure, because the increased focus on robots fighting worked so well for the second film.

Oh sure, because it's not possible to want better/more character interactions among the transformers and less of Shia's parents and the rest of the shenanigans.

So more robot/human interactions means a small secondary roll?
One would think if you wanted to expand it beyond the core cast that would also mean said interactions would be an increased roll.

I don't mind robot/human interactions. In fact, I'd love to see more as the movies felt like they were ignored/separated except when the guns come out or it's between the Shia/Optimus/Bumblebee love triangle and the twins.

I'm just hoping Ratchet and company don't get shafted on screen time like in the last movie. It wasn't that much in the original either, but it was enough not to really complain.

It probably would have if the fighting didn't look like silver solid vomit clashing against each other. Seriously, how did the effects get worse from the first movie? My biggest concern is the 3D, these movie have been nauseating (though I'm more forgiving of the original film) during some of the fight scenes. The more I think about it, I'll probably just pass on 3D, or actually listen to the critics.

I remain baffled by the inability of some people to tell what was going on in the fights in either movie. I had no such trouble. :|

I had no problem making things out in the first movie, but that complaint does apply to the second IMO mostly due to the bad editing for the Egypt battle--it seemed like a blur of random explosions and military stock footage at points.

Okay, big fight in the first movie was a bit confusing, the first time. I hadn't processed who everyone was in the movie. My fault.

The second movie, I still don't know who half of those Transformers were.

Would you really want to see this mess in 3D? Not saying it was a bad action scene, it just could have used a lot more polishing and a little less spinal cord.

Well it wasn't done with 3D in mind, so it's a bit problematic to think the exact same sort of thing is going to be done in 3D. I don't like 3D in general so I'm going to try and watch a 2D version.

EDIT: also youtube really doesn't do it justice. Looks fantastic in 1080p - and the use of slow mo at points is a welcome addition. Should've done it more in the original too.

Did you just advocate more slow mo in a Michael Bay film?

Turn in your nerd card right now, sir.

Anyway, this seems like an odd title. I could totally buy Revenge of the Fallen because that left quite a few doors open. But I'm not sure how The Dark of the Moon will fit. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

They should call it The Dark Side of the Moon and mesh Transformers stuff with crazy Pink Floyd stuff. HEY DECEPTICON LEAVE THOSE KIDS ALONE!

I hope they make awesome interactions between John Turturro and Alan Tudyk. This could be the guy's breakout role! Like Steve the Pirate!

Transformers would definately benifit from slo mo action scenes. The robots are gorgeously detailed. Yet without going frame by frame you cant see anything but moving blurs as the camereman suffers an epileptic fit.

That doesn't require slow motion, it requires competent camera work and choreography. Just making the fight scenes slower would only make the problems worse.

Transformers 3: The Dark of the Moon: The Invasion of the Decepticons/Betrayal of the Autobots?
Based on the titles, I'm afraid this franchise has a terminal case of colon cancer.

But hey, I was amazed, AMAZED, that Micheal Bay managed to create two characters that enraged me more than Jar Jar Binks or Scrappy Doo (now if you were to mix the two...) That takes skill, skill no none respects and everyone hates, but skill nonetheless. Should be an interesting extended two hour long car crash, with lots of gas bombs and shaky-cam robo-fightin' and a Megan Fox stand-in with an ass that's all like "Bow!"

Hey! That should be the new title!
"Trans'sploders: Bombs 'n' Shit: Hot Chick Doing Hot Chick Things: Paint-Mixer Robo-Brawlin': S'plosions: Shia LeButFuck: S'plosions: S'plosions!!

Any ideas for units of measure?

This could be the most one-sided fight since 1973 when Ali fought a 80-foot tall mechanical Joe Frazier. My memory isn't what it used to be, but I think the entire earth was destroyed.

I'll let that speak for itself.
...Fine...
Characters that many people hate for their general ineptitude and irritating characteristics are generally called 'The Scrappy' by tvtropes*. To be a Scrappy, said character(s) must be stupid, annoying, and detrimental to the team they serve.

Examples
Jar Jar Binks (Star Wars TPM)
Mud-Flap & Skid (Transformers 2)
Wesley Crusher (Star Trek TNG )
And, of course, Scrappy Doo
