Re: TESB as a silent movie
It works surprisingly well. The playback speed changes are very important for getting that sense of a silent movie, and were done very well. Likewise
the glare of lightsabres and narrow-focussed shots of much larger sets. Of course, the last silent movie I really enjoyed was Metropolis, which this version of TESB treats similarly.

Q: How are children made in the TNG era Federation?
A: With power couplings. To explain, you shut down the power to the lights, and then, in the darkness, you have the usual TOS era coupling.

Re: TESB as a silent movie
Interestingly, Lucas has stated years ago that Star Wars was supposed to work as a silent movie with its strengths being the music and the sound effects and using them to convey the story far more than the dialogue.
