From what I've seen of Eve spaceships thus far, this looks like it would fit right in. Nice job on the layout too, good luck with the contest.

Of the entries submitted thus far I'd say these are the current front runners:

Keep in mind of course, that what will be the winning entries are likely still works in progress at this point.

Pretty stiff competition thus far though.

I've made some minor revisions and re-uploaded the images in my last update. The primary change is that dark areas should be easier to see now, (hopefully I haven't washed out my highlights.) I also defined the details in the orthos a bit better.

Some very interesting designs there, very nicely presented as well. I have to say my favourite is the very first one, although it may just be it's calling to the Trekkie in me.

I rather like the Metetron myself. Pretty cool design.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Mine too. Very clean and simple, somehow both utilitarian and elegant, and beautifully executed. I love the sliver of purple highlight.

I'll be starting on my 2nd submission tonight, and it too is an Amarr ship in the shape of a crescent, though mine will be horizontal.

There are a couple vertical ones in the game already:

The Metetron is nice, but maybe a bit too derivative. It also looks a little unbalanced to me, not as graceful as I'd expect from a design of this style.

There's a lot of good ones in there, but I'd say the good news is that I think your as-yet unnamed ship is clearly superior to several of them.

I think you have a shot.

After several bad starts on my second submission I've scrapped it in favor of polishing the first one.

Image
Much, much bigger: http://crossovercomic.com/media/extras/ ... FD_02j.jpg

I went back a bit and reworked a few things, and now I'm futzing with all the little things that piss me off at 200% magnification. I'm starting to run low on things to tweak now though. See anything? Anything the least bit imperfect? I still have a week to poke at it, so don't hesitate to point out even the smallest annoyance.

[edit] The pro level CG entries are starting to role in:
http://trachos.deviantart.com/art/The-A ... 3A24h&qo=6
http://kheng.deviantart.com/art/Cyruk-V ... 3A24h&qo=1
http://dlamont.deviantart.com/art/Tsuna ... 3A24h&qo=2
http://plumsbuggy.deviantart.com/art/qu ... 3A24h&qo=7
http://kiwi-the-one.deviantart.com/art/ ... 3A24h&qo=9

[edit]
I guess I don't know that the newer entries are from more seasoned professionals. I have nothing to base that on other than a sense of... well rounded software competence.

Amateurs (like myself) get good at utilizing about 1/3 of our software's capabilities. We might get really, really good at that 1/3, but without a knowledgeable employer expecting us to execute tasks that would otherwise be outside the scope of our knowledge, we tend to stick with what's comfortable rather than learning to utilize the software's full potential.

Most of the more recent entries seem to be from this upper echelon, where every trick and tool has been utilized to full effect.

This one for instance was submitted today. It's the best I've seen thus far:
http://krats.deviantart.com/art/Tyrfing ... 3A24h&qo=0

[edit]
This one is pretty killer too:

Good luck. There's some outstanding entries in this contest, and I do believe your entry stands amongst them. Just one problem: you didn't give the darn thing a name!

The name wasn't required, and I got talked out of "Azrael". If it wins, they can choose the name. I'd be interested to know what they would pick.

Awesome job, man. Good luck for the contest.

And don´t put amateurs down like that. Some amateurs (you included) do extremely good jobs. Most might lack the speed professionals work with due to routine but given enough time amateurs can turn out amazing work.

Holy moly, Fuzzy! That's the awesome-sauce!

Do an animation of it doing a hard burn flyby of the camera, have the camera track and pan to follow it?

The 15 semi-finalists are NOT what I expected:
http://news.deviantart.com/article/133308/

I think only 1 or 2 of the designs I linked to above made it in. I guess I just have very different taste than the DA judges.

lol. they just switched this: http://news.deviantart.com/article/133308/#/d30j0b3
with http://dreamwa1ker.deviantart.com/art/E ... 4962&qo=78 one.

This basically fixes the contest, but leaves little suspense as to who will win.

The funny thing, Fuzzball? The EVE community agrees with you. The thread regarding the semifinalists is one big ball of 'what the fuck are these designs doing I don't even....' rage. DeviantArt has pissed EVE the hell off.

I don't blame them. Most of those designs are terrible.

One of the things I liked about FuzzyModem's design was that it was identifiably Amarr without being derivative of an existing Amarr ship. Most of the semifinal designs don't look like they belong in EvE, or they're like the Tornado, which looks pretty much like someone folded a Maelstrom in half and called it a day.

Yeah, I'm watching this debacle unfold on the forums both on EVE and dA, and I'm not impressed. I'm not usually picky on how others handle things, whether it's judges choosing semi-finalists for their contest or writers writing episodes for a TV series. When I was growing up, I actually liked Voyager, and bad films still entertained me. I've since learned better.

Even so, looking over those semi-finalists for the first time with no other input, I couldn't help but think "WTF??" at some of them. I mean really, the "Bes?" And that LA Battlecruiser getting in over the Tornado made no sense to me. I'm actually rather sad that your submission didn't get in Fuzzy. I thought you had a superb design.

Anywho, looking over the massive nerdrage and threadnaughts on the EVE forums and then looking at the responses from the dA people, the basic gist of it is that the dA people are explaining away how they came to their decision and not really addressing the rage. I kinda hope that CCP decides to rejudge the submissions using their own team and leaves dA to sort out their own set of rewards.
