iPhone: Replacing my broken 3GS with another

Post by Phantasee »

So I'm picking up a used 3GS tomorrow for a pretty good price, it's the same capacity, unlocked, but white (oh well, can't have everything).

I'm wondering: will I be able to restore this new iPhone with a back up of my current iPhone? AFAIK the used one is running on the last version of iOS3 and my phone is up to date. Will it just overwrite the contents of the used phone and ask me to pick a back up of my phone?

What do you mean 'but white'?

Aside from the whole cracking business.

And yeah, so long as you have a backup, it'll be nigh-seamless. I think you still lose all you in-app data (like game saves etc) though.

Sorry, meant it's the same as mine in every respect except for the colour of the case. I'm not a fan of the white one, that's all.

Well, it's good to know it'll be seamless. Can't think of any in-app data that I care about anyway, I did do a couple restores after mine stopped working properly, so i don't think I have anything left.

Mine is up to date with 4.1.

My old one fell into the tub while I was waiting for it to fill up. The thing is designed like a bar of soap -- smooth and slippery. The cellular radio must have shorted out, because everything else works, it just won't find the network when the SIM is in it.

The same thing happened to me.

:embarassed:

The new one restored all my settings from my last backup as has been said already. This one will be insured and I won't be using it to play music in the bathroom anymore....

Buy a Droid X from Big Red.

(do you guys have Verizon in Canada?)

Why would we have a US carrier in Canada? We've got Rogers, Bell, Telus, some new kids, and the majors have second and third tier carriers with different names (Rogers/Fido/Chat-r, Bell/Solo, Telus is third tier on its own).

So I got the phone...

It's black. Came with a decent case.

It's jail broken.

I'm concerned that if I restore it it'll turn out to actually be locked to Bell or (heaven forbid!) Telus instead of Rogers as the guy claimed. I'd hate to have to kick his ass if it turns out he lied to me.

Different company? Not currently related to AT&T in any meaningful way? I mean, AT&T was Cingular a couple years ago, wasn't it?

Cingular is "a Southern Bell Company". Most of the US Telecoms are Baby Bells.
