Yeah, I own the First Edition of Tactics also. I was almost disappointed when they re-released it as an uglified green version, the fact that I owned Final Fantasy Tactics made me feel superior to all the newbie Square fans.Ghost Rider wrote:Basically they took a great man character classes from FF3(japanese) and FF5 and made it into a strategy game.weemadando wrote:Final - Fantasy - Tactics?Durandal wrote: Final Fantasy Tactics is probably the best Final Fantasy soundtrack I can think of, though. The music is just plainly beautiful.
What the fuck?
The game was hard as hell to find and I am damn proud to say I own one when it first came out...it's a kickass game except too few party member on your side(fieling only five...wish they took Tactic Ogre and made it 12)
Also they are making a pseudo sequel called Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced for the GBA
Best soundtrack?

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

Deus Ex probably had the best soundtrack of any PC game I've played.
All good, atmospheric stuff, but the standout track for me was the stirring music from the Training Academy levels, right at the game's beginning. Weird choice, maybe, but it caught my ear for two reasons:
1) When you go on your - JC Denton's - first real mission and put that training into practice, the background track, while completely different in style and mood, still has definite echoes of the music from the academy. Nice touch.
2) The crusading, you-too-can-strike-out-for-truth-and-justice tone of both the music, the training and the attitudes of your instructors is revealed, in the fullness of time... Spoiler

And then there's Resident Evil 2, which is the only game soundtrack I've seriously considered buying on CD.

For score, I'd say in no particular order....
Gladiator
Lord of the Rings
Star Wars
Batman
For sound tracks, at the moment the two in my mind are The Lost Boys and Sharpe. (Damn you UK Gold! )

I actually first got started on music by listening to film scores, and they remain one of my favorite musical genres. I've got so many favorites that I'm going to list them by composer.
No particular order:
James Horner: Aliens, Braveheart, Glory, Star Trek II, Star Trek III, Enemy At The Gates, Titanic, The Perfect Storm, The Rocketeer, Patriot Games
Danny Elfman: Batman, Batman Returns
John Barry: Dances With Wolves
Hans Zimmer: Gladiator, Black Hawk Down
David Arnold: Independence Day, Stargate
John Williams: Jurassic Park, any Star Wars or Indiana Jones score
Howard Shore: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers
Jerry Goldsmith: The Mummy, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Nemesis, The 13th Warrior, Ghost and the Darkness, Air Force One
Alan Silvestri: Predator, Predator 2, The Abyss, Flight of the Navigator
Cliff Eidelman:Star Trek VI
Brad Fiedel: Terminator 2
Mark Mancina: Twister
Basil Poledouris: Conan the Barbarian, Starship Troopers, The Hunt For Red October
James Newton Howard: Waterworld, The Postman, The Fugitive
Elliot Goldenthal: Interview with the Vampire
Note that with certain movies I love the music even though the film was total crap (and I'll leave it to y'all to decide which ones I mean.)

Dmitri Tiomkin's score to The Fall of the Roman Empire remains the best out there.

I am capable of rearranging the fundamental building blocks of the universe in under six seconds. I shelve physics texts under "Fiction" in my personal library! I am grasping the reigns of the universe's carriage, and every morning get up and shout "Giddy up, boy!" You may never grasp the complexities of what I do, but at least have the courtesy to feign something other than slack-jawed oblivion in my presence. I, sir, am a wizard, and I break more natural laws before breakfast than of which you are even aware!

My top six favorite scores
6.) The Phantom of the Opera - If any of you have never listen to opera or show tunes, this is a real good place to start. Just some amazing music in this musical.
5.) The Godfather - I just love the opening trumpet waltz. Really sets the tone for the rest of the movie.
4.) Raiders of the Lost Ark - Who doesn't feel like wearing a brown fedora after hearing the indy march?
3.) Gettysburg - well done score that has very soft and touching moments, and intense battle music.
2.) The Civil War (the Ken Burns series) - The violin piece Ashkoan Farewell is just a moving, beautiful piece of music. The Civil War era music presented on this disc is top notch.
1.) The Star Wars trilogy - Like you didn't see this coming. It's so hard to pick out a selection that represents the best of the Star Wars score. Do you pick Duel of the Fates? The Imperial March? The Han Solo and the Princess theme? Cantina Band? There are so many good selections in this score its amazing.
