Virtualdub rules. I mention it on my personal home page, along with some other tricks for playing with videos.

I just used it to resync a video file where the audio was a second out of sync. Pretty good, but the interface is a little too utilitarian.

There's really only one problem with VirtualDub for basic editing -- it can't handle variable bitrate audio very well (in an existing file or for creating a new one). There's a hack of it out called Nandub that addresses this very issue, but the author's stopped work on it, so it's fallen pretty far behind VD in features. If you need that functionality, it used to be available at nandub.org, but that's since become a cybersquatter's nest -- better to just try a Google search for it.

You shouldn't be putting variable bitrate audio into an AVI, anyway. It violates the spec. Hell, you shouldn't even be using a shit container like AVI anyway, but whatever.

I didn't say anything about QuickTime. MPEG-4, on the other hand ...phongn wrote:Well, he could be using QT, which sucks on Windows and isn't officially supported on Linux
