Re: New Starship Design; Seeking advice
We could just make two fights, similar of course so that they could be essentially the same fight so to minimize the amount of work required, but with different outcomes.

Re: New Starship Design; Seeking advice
Well, there's only one way to find out which is the better design... FIGHT!
Of course you cant do that with them badly mismatched in size, so I rescaled and redetailed the smaller ship so that we can have a fair fight between them. Here they are at their new sizes, approx 900m long...
I'm rather busy doing video stuff the next couple of days, but I'll try and get some test animation done of examples of weapons fire from these bad boys.

New battleship! (Compared to the Warlord it's a small one, but different universes have different needs.)
Front:
Side:
Top/bottom:
Back:
Iso:
For those who like numbers, it's exactly 1 mile long and armed with six 432" guns. I may scale down the guns later, since they're a tad larger than I had originally designed for. More details added later.
EDIT: Re-sized the internal barrel to 105", which is much more manageable than 432".

Re: New Starship Design; Seeking advice
It's the USS Chunky Monkey! Very solid looking thing, but I'm not sure it really says 'mile long leviathan' right now. There's no real size defining detail at this stage I suppose, so it's difficult to tell. A much more sensible and mature design than your early efforts, I must say. Now all big guns are on the centerline so you can have maximum firepower on either broadside with the minimum of turrets. There are none on one side only, needing more turrets to get the same number of guns on each broadside.
If I was to change anything it would be the engine layout and your missile tubes. The outer row of missile tubes on each side is almost cutting into the edge, leaving a very thin wall. I'd decrease the number of tubes on that row so the thickness of wall around them matches the inner rows. As for the engine layout, I think the 4 large rectangular ones fit nicely, but the small and overly complex middle section is a bit redundant. I'd keep or slightly enlarge the 4 rectangles and change the middle section into some detail or other. Maybe pipes and boxes or cooling fins or something, but not glowing engine ports.

Re: New Starship Design; Seeking advice
I've had pretty good success making parts, then putting them together. I've also have success making details, then copy and pasting them onto the model, makes it go faster I think. Over all, I like it, but by nature of the length and having a thin middle, looks like it's bent in the middle.

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Re: New Starship Design; Seeking advice
Yeah, I find it pretty weird to look at, although I was kinda going for that. I'm going to post updated pictures of it when I can, for now I'm limited to what I can make on my netbook.

Re: New Starship Design; Seeking advice
Neither design really sings to me, although admittedly at this stage they're very plain and undetailed.

Re: New Starship Design; Seeking advice
^ It looks good so far. A suggestion - feel free to use or reject as you will. For your middle turret, maybe some type of antenna fairing sticking out of the top? Something to break the top line, but also sleek...

Re: New Starship Design; Seeking advice
It's already got quite a hefty comm/sensor array in the front, so that'd be a bit redundant. And it'd ruin the symmetry of it all. I don't think it's the kind of ship that would look well or benefit from such an addition, if it was asymmetrical on the x-z plane and had a unique turret in that location then it would be more fitting.

Re: New Starship Design; Seeking advice
Now that really is an interesting looking ship. Keep at it and see what detail you can work into it.

I really like that one too. Makes me think of a lander of some sort.

Re: New Starship Design; Seeking advice
Well, today I was playing the original StarCraft, and I felt really nostalgic about the old battlecruiser and how I liked the Behemoth class' look better than the Hercules and Minotaur classes used in StarCraft II. So, after extracting the Behemoth's sprite images from the game data, I used them to make what I feel is a fairly accurate model of the ship so far, and here it is:
I've already named it, and those who can guess what I named it will get a cookie or an internet, or just a congrats if they don't care for those two.
Also, just to see how many SC fans happen to be here: Who can guess the faction which uses the white color scheme? And what division of that faction specifically?
