LOTR force addition: Terminators

Post by Deimos Anomaly »

Around about the time of The Two Towers, a force of 100 T-800 endoskeletons armed with their standard plasma rifle armament enters Middle Earth. They also have supplies for their weapons to keep them operational for a long period of operations (years).

However, they are not in the service of Skynet - they are from a factory captured by the resistance, which took over the running of the plant, changing the programming of all subsequent Terminators produced there to be on the side of humanity.

How they managed to access the LOTR reality and why they decided to take a hand in it is irrelevant. 100 T-800s have now appeared in M.E, and will be fighting on the side of the forces of good.

Does this change anything?

Yes, since the Plasma rifle the T1 Future war T-800 had was near continuous beam fire. Where talking about 100 armored Robots with machine guns. Heck that T1 rifle fired faster then the plasma cannon mini guns in T2's future war…

The Terminators are going to be immune to any ranged weapons, and I doubt even the hardiest sword blows could damage anything bigger then the finger joints, which no ones going to be aiming for.

In any standup fight, each T-800 could easily kill several hundred Orcs in a matter of minutes.

At Minas Tirith the Terminators could likely destroy many if not all to the siege weapons erected for the attack since their weapons almost caringly are more effective at range then the bows on hand. And the fire of even a few would make an assault on the main gate near impossible.

However, they may suffer from limited mobility. The T-800 endoskeleton looks like it weighs a good five hundred pounds. That’s going to be too much for most horses to carry any distance. However, assuming they can sustain a run at human speeds, they should be able to cover the distances needed to make their presence felt on the battlefields.

And 20 or so accompanying Frodo certainly would speed things along. Heck, just give the T-800s the ring and some swords, which can kill, ring wraiths and the problem is solved. The only thing that could stop them is if their weapons overheated.

The forces of evil have just got a major kick in the teeth!

They're going down hard.

With a hundred terminators leading them, the armies of good will take down the Orks and Sauron in short order. Or at least much quicker than it happened in the conventional LOTR timeline.

Actually the Terminators could probably do it by themselves. Even though it would be just 100 vs countless thousands, I'd doubt if the forces of Mordor could even do anything to damage them. Their automatic energy weapons would keep their foes at bay, slaughtering thousands upon thousands and piling the corpses high. Even if the enemy managed to close with them, it's doubtful if a sword could damage them, but the terminators could physically tear their enemies limb from limb.

About the weight: IIRC in one of the Terminator books or comics it was stated that a T-800 infiltrator (endoskeleton plus flesh covering) weighed about 400 pounds. A pure "naked" endoskeleton would probably be a bit lighter, but not that much. Maybe 350 pounds or so.

I guess the only disadvantage that terminators have compared to humans would be negative bouyancy - they would not be able to swim without the aid of an external float. However this is probably irrelevant as a terminator wanting to cross a river could probably just wade right in and walk across the bed. Or use its strength to uproot a tree or break off a large branch to float accross on.

I just wonder what a hit from a cave trolls club would do. I'm sure it would be more than just a dent.

Balrog, Sauron, or Saruman might be able to do something about them

Balrog, yes. But they really have no reason to go into the mines. Sauron can't do jack until he gets the ring, which wont happen with Terminators transporting/guarding it. Most of his minions are fodder for gunfire, and the others can be dealth with if the Terminators are issued the right swoards. Saruman was killed when stabbed with a knife. Plasma cannon fire should work just fine.

Saruman may be able to whip up a storm (literally) before the Treminators come within a mile.

And that will do what to Terminators? At best he might kill one or two with a huge amount of lighting.
