An unarmored Space Marine vs Korgoth the Barbarian
A duel between the superhuman and the superbarbarian. Both are allowed to choose a steel weapon of choice and will fight to the death in the colloseum.

Re: An unarmored Space Marine vs Korgoth the Barbarian
Korgoth is tough, but he's a bit on the thick side and while he is super human his tricks simply won't work on the faster tougher Marine who can do fun stuff like spit acid. Not to mention things like the black carapace, toughened bones and other augmentations. Assuming the Marine was smart, and thought of a shield as a weapon, he might pick a Spartan style shield as it provides both defense and offense. Korgoth seems like they type to just grab an axe and expect to be better than his opponent and in many cases he would be right, too bad this isn't one of them.

Is this Marine with or without power armor.

The thread title says unarmored, if the marine had armor it wouldn't even be close.IvanTih wrote:Is this Marine with or without power armor.

I agree after all Marine has faster reflexes and ceramite hardened bones not to mention the strength.Norade wrote:The thread title says unarmored, if the marine had armor it wouldn't even be close.IvanTih wrote:Is this Marine with or without power armor.
Also they can move faster than human eye can see.

Not all loyalist SMs have functioning Betcher's glands.

Is it ever explained why their's don't work? And how often is it used in (close) combat - the only incident I can think of is in Soul Hunter, where he sprays the assassin?IvanTih wrote:Imperial Fists and their descendants.[R_H] wrote:Not all loyalist SMs have functioning Betcher's glands.

Re: An unarmored Space Marine vs Korgoth the Barbarian
Since it is an innate ability like say the ability to punch stuff, how often it gets used in combat would only depend on the personal preference of the marine in question, don't you agree?
PS. That link for the barbarian guy won't load for me for some reason but either way I don't think it would be any contest at all. The space marine is well just a space marine. A super strong, super soldier from the future enhanced beyond wanking and with centuries of combat experience fighting orks, chaos hordes and all sorts of evil stuff.

It has become clear to me in the previous days that any attempts at reconciliation and explanation with the community here has failed. I have tried my best. I really have. I pored my heart out trying. But it was all for nothing.
You win. There, I have said it.
Now there is only one thing left to do. Let us see if I can sum up the strength needed to end things once and for all.

A Geneseed flaw,it is used probably when a Marine loses his helmet, which happens sometimes.[R_H] wrote:Is it ever explained why their's don't work? Just type Korgoth in youtube. It's on there as well.Purple wrote:

I voted for the SM given the answers here. I didn't realised it can spit acid, and I doubt Korgoth will see that one coming.

Yeah, Korgoth is awesome, but a full fledged SM is a bit much even for him. I think he could take a Spartan II though, assuming they each had no armor and only melee weapons.

I doubt he would see anything after he didn't see it coming, as well...wautd wrote:I didn't realised it can spit acid, and I doubt Korgoth will see that one coming.
A minute's thought suggests that the very idea of this is stupid. A more detailed examination raises the possibility that it might be an answer to the question "how could the Germans win the war after the US gets involved?" - Captain Seafort, in a thread proposing a 1942 'D-Day' in Quiberon Bay

PS. someone mentioned the SM's black carapace. Isn't that only related to connect with his armor (so irrelevant for this tread), or does it also offers some skin hardening? If so, to what level?
Re: An unarmored Space Marine vs Korgoth the Barbarian
Pretty sure that it acts as a kind of light armour as well, but I lack the Codex.

It's a rigid carapace. How hard it actually is isn't explicitly stated to my knowledge, but it is stated that it is hard enough for Tech-Priests to carve connection ports and data-channels into.

RE the acid spit; only certain Chapters that can use it do - others consider it ... unmanly, for lack of a better phrase. The only vital part of a Space Marine not protected by his black carapace was his head. Hearts, lungs, stomach, chest, all were impervious to any unarmed blow from even the strongest assailant.

Re: An unarmored Space Marine vs Korgoth the Barbarian
I can think of another example in 40k fiction where it became very important, that also explains an additional function of the Betcher's Gland.
In Brothers of the Snake, Brother-Sergeant Priad faces a very skilled Dark Eldar lord in a duel, and is almost defeated. In the end, he only wins by spitting poison in his opponents eyes. If I recall correctly, he had to remove his helmet early in the fight because it was damaged by a strike from his opponent.
Most interestingly, he was bitten by a poisonous snake earlier on while on a training exercise on the Chapter's homeworld.. not only did his Space Marine Oolitic Kidney remove the toxin, it transferred it to his Betcher's Gland for later secretion.
The Betcher's Gland is rarely used, but when things get tough, it can make a difference in a close fight.
Edit: Though, as pointed out, this fight probably won't even be a close one.

Korgoth. By virtue of the guy with a Name always wins. Plus the Space Marine is an Idealist and Korgoth is a Cynic, and the Cynic also always wins. Especially when the setting is GrimDark.
Re: An unarmored Space Marine vs Korgoth the Barbarian
Korgoth. I'd like to see what the space marine can do to top ripping a guy's skin off by his hair.
Point is, Korgoth can perform ridiculous, cartoonish feats of violence that don't even make any sense, while the space marines are merely ridiculously powerful.

Hairy balls of the gods.
Korgoth can grab someone by the hair and use it to rip off all of their skin. Just throwin' that out there.

its like thundarr meets heavy metal.
If a black-hawk flies over a light show and is not harmed, does that make it immune to lasers?
