And I never even saw an episode before it happened. Oh well ...

Now that it's been shitcanned you can guarantee that it will get picked up by some Australian channel (probably 7mate or Go!) and spun as "the latest hot new American shit! YEAH!"Vympel wrote:And I never even saw an episode before it happened. Oh well ...

I actually enjoyed it somewhat. It wasn't all that bad. But then I liked to watch Dynasty and Dallas when I was little

Interesting that you should mention that as it started airing on 7mate on September 30th.weemadando wrote: Now that it's been shitcanned you can guarantee that it will get picked up by some Australian channel (probably 7mate or Go!) and spun as "the latest hot new American shit! YEAH!"
As for myself I never got into Caprica because I was severely (to put it mildly) disappointed by BSG's ending. The intro is pretty slick, though.
Re: Caprica cancelled.
Well, this'll be a disappointment to those who genuinely cared about the show. Both of them.

Re: Caprica cancelled.
I watched the Pilot. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't even close to good enough for me to consider wasting my time watching any more of it. The religious shit it tried shoving down your throat was a pain in the ass, and a lot of the acting just wasn't up to scratch, really. Plus, I loathed the finale of nBSG, so I knew I couldn't count on things making sense.
That said, I'm curious what happened with Cylon girl. But not curious enough to watch it.

Re: Caprica cancelled.
It was a pretty good series - but it had the wrong premise. It was "corporate, terrorist and gangster culture with a VR twist" instead of "this is how the cylons came to be."
So yeah, not that much of a loss.
That said, I did enjoy a lot of the series. The VR world, the main title (easily the best of the last few years) and there were a few surprisingly good actors (Magda Apanowicz playing Lacy Rand). But all in all, the big plots just dragged and dragged on. And for being the main character, Zoe was actually quite worthless.

Re: Caprica cancelled.
I really liked it and am glad to see it go. The plot was just starting to build, and not only did they cancel it, but the remaining ones won't air until next year? WTF SyFy? Talk about a huge fuck you to the fans.
I wasn't really a fan of the Lacy plotline, and in fact it pretty much made no sense. She only got in with Barnabas to get Lacy's cylon body to Geminon, after she thought the body was destroyed, why would she still be with this group? The motivations for her to still be working with STO don't really make any sense.
I think the show may have hung onto its ratings if they hadn't taken such a long break, then have it return in a different timeslot.

I liked the first half, but haven't caught up with the second half yet. Way to kill all the momentum that was building up.

Re: Caprica cancelled.
I've heard it suggested that "Caprica" existed as a series concept prior to BSG, and then during the BSG run they decided to bolt on the BSG material on in order to try and hook some of the BSG fans.Thanas wrote:It was a pretty good series - but it had the wrong premise. That would not surprise me - you could pretty much exchange the thirteen colonies for modern-day earth and still get basically the same show.Uraniun235 wrote:I've heard it suggested that "Caprica" existed as a series concept prior to BSG, and then during the BSG run they decided to bolt on the BSG material on in order to try and hook some of the BSG fans.Thanas wrote:It was a pretty good series - but it had the wrong premise. Aw man, just when it was finally getting good. I really liked the 'inside the matrix holoband' plot and was curious as to where it was going. It was an obvious precursor to Cylon projection and/or resurrection. Besides that the last episode even had a full on Cylon slaughter rampage. When it was done it looked at the person that gave its orders and said in old school Cylon robot voice, "Task complete, by your command." The guy looked around and said, "Hmm, how are you with tanks?"

I was actually thinking that the last episode was quite a good one. There was an amazing amount of dross, though. The religious thing was handled very heavy-handedly, that VR realm was fairly pointless, Sister Clarice was annoying, Lacey was annoying.
Wonder how it'll impact on that New Adventures of Young William Adama show?

Re: Caprica cancelled.
How bad was the season finale? I missed it, although the rest of the series was okay. There were some pretty nice moments, such as seeing virtual Tamara 'eject' Vesta from New Cap City, and the hilariously awkward moment when R-Zoe averted her eye from her parents impending make-out.
Re: Caprica cancelled.
This is why half seasons are bullshit. If they'd kept airing episodes in the normal order (maybe with a 2 week break of so after the half season cliffhanger) it'd be just fine, but to make people wait months by which time they've found other things to care about or have lost interest in other ways is just stupid.
Re: Caprica cancelled.
Yeah, I don't understand the rationale of the half-season. It turns people off. They get bored, they don't care to come back.

Re: Caprica cancelled.
And it forces people to come up with cliff-hangers, which is not a good thing, because the first episodes of a show are supposed to introduce us to the characters. So you get three character episodes, which are not too heavy on the action and then you have to max the action for the cliffhanger. And then you cause people to wonder why the rest of the other episodes were not that exciting.Vympel wrote:Yeah, I don't understand the rationale of the half-season. It turns people off. I've come to the conclusion that shows these days are far better on DVD, you can appreciate the story arcs much better.

They can sell several boxes of the season at nearly the price of a full season package. So they make more money.Vympel wrote:Yeah, I don't understand the rationale of the half-season. It turns people off. They get bored, they don't care to come back.
Also they can gouge how interested people are in buying the DVDs about half a season earlier.
It's stupid to do but it promises more money and to lessen risk.
So the Managers will pull it until they recognize that it actually kills their cash cows.

By this logic no show should last more than two seasons. I mean people get bored in the gap between seasons right? They won't ever come back afterwards ever! In fact we should only ever make shows that are in continuous production! Like soap operas which of course are by far the best example of on going and popular programming.Vympel wrote:Yeah, I don't understand the rationale of the half-season. It turns people off. Basically half seasons are just short seasons twice often. That sounds like a good thing to me. Hell even half an american season is about as long as British series lasts.

Re: Caprica cancelled.
Half seasons are too short. They lead to disjointed storylines.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.
Re: Caprica cancelled.
If you cut a glacial American season in half, you have a weak season. The more shows that do it the better.
I doubt American shows will e er adopt a shorter season as a writing stand so it's never going to work properly.

Strange, everyone seems to think BSG's first season was its best; i.e The short one.Sarevok wrote:Half seasons are too short. They lead to disjointed storylines.
Less episodes mean more story and less filler.
Though, granted this is only if the writers actually realise they are writing two short seasons and not one long one. The half-season thing also leads to silly dvd boxsetting. Oddly I pay money for an 8 episode series of a british show while bristling at the idea of buying a 10 episode half season of an american one. So they're not doing themselves any favours there.
