The woman on the right is the PM who took over after our former PM got stabbed in the back by his own party, the man to her right is the opposition leader.

The other five people are the five MPs who do not belong to either major party. Because neither major party obtained a majority in the lower house, they are fighting to win over the support of these five individuals (or at least 3/5) in order to form a government.

The three on the left are independents who formerly belonged to the National party, then the dude with the green tie is the Greens member for Melbourne, and the final man is the Tasmanian independent who was a former greens rep. His big thing is that he wants limits on how much money people can bet on the slot machines at a time.

I know this is a bit late but how is this a good cartoon? It's painfully simple and lacks any subtle language to it, it's as simple bad as those conservative cartoons.

I mean I could see a conservative making a cartoon that's just Obama with an Obama button (because obviously we don't know who the guy is) with an I love America t-shirt ut with his thought bubble saying "But I hate unborn fetuses, the rich, christians, our troops, American soverignity, the Constitution"

It's not terribly clever, but it is making a valid point. There is a difference between bad and not great. I think to get a really bad political cartoon you need a combination of bad art, bad communication, and a stupid, untrue message. If a cartoon is spot on and clearly communicates its message, just being a bit blunt and simple doesn't necessarily make it bad.

Merely saying Newt hates certain groups in a blatant way isn't clever or insightful, it doesn't make a point and that's what makes it a bad comic. It has no real point, and it doesn't even express that non-existent point in an interesting way.

Point taken, while it may be "true" it isn't exactly all that clever.
I would say it does make a point, but comics posted here should have a bit more 'finesse' to them.

I'd say there is a point. One of the republicans' favorite lines of attack is to accuse Democrats of hating America. Any criticism of conservative government policies or conservatives themselves is an attack on the Nation. Saying that we have room for improvement in any field is saying that the U.S. isn't perfect, and that equals hatred for America. Suggesting that U.S. might have made some mistakes in foreign policy is flat out treason. Even failing to wear a flag pin in the lapel has been cause for questioning their opponents' patriotism. This is one of the republicans' favorite rhetorical weapons, "America, love it or leave it." So pointing out that republicans only love the right kind of Americans and actually express hatred for large segments of the population is absolutely a valid point.

The first UK cartoon shows Capitalism (depicted as a Godzilla sized pig) slapping down the previous UK leaders (PM Gordon Brown and Chancellor Alistair Darling) and in the bottom right corner you see David Cameron the current Prime Minister (turning into a superhero sarcastically called "Captain Do Bugger All" with "Thrift" plastered over his chest). In the second cartoon you have a bust of David Cameron, with his impractical "qualities" being marked out like a symbolic head, with the more pragmatic quality of "policy" being small, white and outlined on the base of his head.

Yeah, that one is flying past my head too. Shame, I would have have "Final Crisis of Capitalism" pig as Darkseid, but yeah, the cartoonists aren't that creative.

EDIT: Found it! The sick one is referring to swine flu. It's an older cartoon.

I remember a political cartoon from around 2002 where the caption was "Te bush administration admitted to another ignored warning about 9/11 and it was a dude standing outside the white house painting a billboard that said, in huge letters "HEY DUMBASS" With a picture of an airplane and an arrow pointing from the airplane to an image of the twin towers. Below it it said "Coming 9/11/01"

If someone can find that for me online, I'll give you...I dunno, much love. I've been looking for it for years. As far as I know, it was only published in a florida Liberal rag whose name I can't even recall.
