[Speech] Terrorism, civil liberties, democrat hypocrisy

Post by Thanas »

Very long speech, but worth listening to.

No matter what political orientation you have, this speech is very much worth listening to, if only to raise the issue. I especially enjoyed the dichotomy of terrorism/civil liberties, the parallels between Obama and Bush, the targeting of reporters by US troops and the hypocrisy of the Democrat politicians.

You may not agree with Greenwald, but he highlights very important things.

The Q&A is great as well.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood

^ He raises one good point that can't be emphasized enough: the "Blue Dogs" got shitkicked yesterday - since they obviously were not conservative enough for their constituencies

The day that the Democrats realize their "shift to the right; get every single district" is an idiotic pipe dream, and the Median Voter Theorem does not apply to say - North Fuckitty, Nebraska , is the day we can finally have a politically savvy progressive party in this country.
