Unsure, but his is the only map I could find. Even though his logic is faultier than a nuclear power plant made of balsa wood, I would think that maybe his map of the ST galaxy is reasonable and I can't think of anything on the map that would make it unreasonable to use to give myself an idea of where the major powers are located.

If anyone knows of a better map then please let me know as my searches have so far been fruitless.

Well if you want maps go here - its the best site for Trek maps I have ever seen, I don't agree with all of his conclusions but the work is very though and rather excellent.

The best Star Trek maps I ever saw were the ones Geoffrey Mandel drafted way back in 1980. You can't find the damn things anywhere now, but they were the best of their or any time. Mandel and his writers made an effort to pin each ST world to an actual star system, produced a very reasonable set of galactic coordinates based upon an arbitrary centre hub-point in Federation space, and provided some reasonable-sounding theories on navigation and warp drive. Almost nobody remembers this work now, but it was big then. I could kick myself for not getting a set when it was available. Shane Johnson used it as a source when he produced his Worlds Of The Federation book when TNG was starting out on TV. But the Mandel maps showed a level of research, craft, and care for continuity which is utterly alien to the Franchise these days.

Geoffrey Mandel's STAR TREK STAR CHARTS was published by Pocket Books late last year. It is very beautifully done. He has the Federation as being about 1000 light years across. It also almost completely surrounds the Romulan Empire.

Since he tried to include every show up to ENTERPRISE, there are some anomalies. For example, Ferenginar is only about 60 light years from Earth. OTOH, the remains of the T'kon Empire, where the first "official" face-to-face contact between humans and ferengi occurs, is about 120 light years from Earth roughly 130-150 degrees in another direction.

The accounts of Fed space stretching to Rigel, Deneb, and Antares (IIRC) is crap as revealed by glancing through the Star Trek Chronology thing.

It is stated in Star Trek: First Contact that the Federation spans over 8000 light years. So any map that says otherwise is contradicted by canon.

The impression that I got when Picard was talking about the Federation was from one end to the other in linear terms.
