Ashcroft takes down Tommy Chong and 55 websites
Just heard about it from a friend.
This is some kind of nationwide drug (edit: paraphernalia it seems) bust.
Yikes. I missed out on the conferences
(edit : They seem to be hunting down drug paraphernalia, not sure about drugs itself)

"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."
Chong: You know what we should invest in? An old age home for hippies. Cause, think about it, hippies have been around since the 60's man, and now there isn't really a hip place for them to go anymore. So, you know, it would be a home where they could smoke all the dope they'd want and listen to all the music they want, you know.
Cheech: Oh yeah, we could call in 'Laidback Manor'.
"Dave's not here man "
"no man I'm Dave let me in"
"Dave's not here man"
I'm not having any luck with finding articles -.-;

Why? Bush is going to win. Ashcroft might have to go, though.Shinova wrote:I am VERY MUCH looking forward to the next presidential election.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.
In fact the Bush administration would probably be unwise not to get rid of him, given his unpopularity.Shinova wrote:Ashcroft could go though, that's the important part.Durran Korr wrote:Why? Dammit I'm still trying to figure out where all the Translevanian Villagers with Torches and Pitchforks are when we really need them... For jobs like:
Removing Berman & Bragga from Star Trek
Getting Asshole-croft out of office
Livening up dull parties
Miss Cleo is a monster, get her!
etc.

The scariest folk song lyrics are "My Boy Grew up to be just like me" from cats in the cradle by Harry Chapin
It's too bad John Ashcroft couldn't even beat a dead man for his Senate seat in 2000. Then he wouldn't be Attorney General. Although, someone even worse may have been appointed in his place.

Keep in mind depending on how the Democratic Primarys go Bush will win by a close race(Sharpton gets the Nomination) or by a Landslided(Liberman gets the nomination)
Wondering why I say that about Liberman?
Keep in mind before he became Gore's Running mate Liberman was an outspoke critic of the First Amndment Free Speech rights
Inculding such Wonderful Quotes as
"Holleywood is just as bad as the Porn Industry except Holleywood gets away with it, I'd do away with both of them if I could"
"Video games teach our children to be mindless murderers"
I've got a few more somewhere else but he also has said on a few occasions the De-regulation of Televison was the worst thing to ever happen to America
Basicly he's a 50's Drone viewing the world through Fundy Glasses, seeing MTV and The Daily Show as direct assults on national values, rather than Entertainment

Sharpton is probably the most unelectable candidate ever to be in the hunt for the Democratic nomination. He would be an absolute disaster for the Democratic party. Lieberman isn't that great either.
All and all, I don't think the Dems are going to be able to produce a strong candidate in 2004.

It won't fishtail. It'll recover eventually, once a strong candidate appears again.Shinova wrote:If the Demoratic Party fishtails, what replaces it?

I agree. The Democrats really don't have anyone that could challenge Bush, and Al Gore was probably their strongest candidate, before he announced he wasn't going ot run. If Democrats want to win, they should stop whining, and atacking Bush on something like civil liberties.Durran Korr wrote:Sharpton is probably the most unelectable candidate ever to be in the hunt for the Democratic nomination. Ashcroft needs to go. He's got no appeal amongst the conservative base, moderates can't stand him, and the think-tank crowd think he's the worst member of the cabinet. If Bush wants to court moderate Democrats in 2004 (which will be possible if Sharpton or Lieberman get nominated), he needs to get rid of that albatross.

Here's the problem for the Democrats: they couldn't get elected WITH that platform. The moderates who control the outcomes of elections in this country LIKE welfare reform, are in favor of the war, and recognize that a "living wage" would increase unemployment and drive small businesses into bankruptcy. Bush has done the exact same thing Clinton did to the Republicans for his entire term. If the dems go to the middle, their piss off their grassroots base and Bush steals all their issues. If they go to the left, they alienate the moderates and get spanked by the Republicans. They're in a shit position, and I don't feel the least bit sorry for them, because MY side was in the exact same fix for 8 years.weemadando wrote:The best thing I've seen yet on why the democrats are not (unfortunately) going to get re-elected for a while.
