When I moved to my Slim, somehow my BP progress got lost... so there's no way I will ever play that fucking game again. 101% completion to Hunter Cavalry? Pfffffft. :?

Another $10 down - on Metro 2033 and Beat Hazard. Both worthwhile I think.

Been playing K&L2 - I'll probably start a new thread for it at some point, but damn I like that game.

It's even more fun coop with a Taiwanese girl who hates the Chinese. :v Its too short, though, much shorter than the first one.

I borrowed Flash's Metro and bought the Ranger DLC; I just passed Depot and so far 'Ranger Extreme' isn't hard at all. I guess I'm just awesome - I got through the Khan bandit station without being seen or killing anyone, I killed everyone on Frontline, just ran through Black station...

Do you have a PS3, weemadando? I've ordered Demon's Souls on Ebay for 32 bucks incl. postage, apparently it's extremely awesome but didn't get a release outside of Japan and Europe.

Next on my list after that is Deadly Premonition, also for ~30 bucks 8)
A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.

At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.

The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'

'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

He's deliberately buying terrible games, ignore him.

I guess you got Metro on PC? Hopefully they patched all the silly problems it had on that platform.

It's a shooter you moron. It's as open as Gears, Halflife, Call of Duty, etc. Don't blame the game because you expected it to be Falloutski.

Of course, since I played NV the other day, it really strikes me what an utter failure Fallout is atmosphere wise and how much Metro succeeds... but no statswank or broken levelling = game sucks.

Whoa whoa whoa, comrade - I don't want Falloutski. I wanted there to be more exploration and rewards for exploring, like...I dunno...Metroid Prime or RE. Also - I didn't say it sucked, just that I couldn't get into it. it didn't "Grab" me. I didn't find it "compelling" although it WAS "Atmospheric"; it totally succeeded with that. Also, I found it to be "immersive" enough, just lacking in "emergent" gameplay.

There are plenty of rewards for exploration (like a silenced SMG in the first foyer). You just suck at exploring. :)

And a bud just gifted me the new AvP on Steam. As an AvP whore, I'm appreciative, but apprehensive.

I rented it on the 360 awhile back, it was pretty awful. I couldn't get past the terrible control scheme, and it's basically a corridor stroller in the jungle.

That's a "gift" kind of in the same way spreading a disease is. That game is soul-crushingly disappointing.

Another 10 USD to feed my ArmA habit. With ArmA2, OA, BAF and PMC I now have enough ARMA.

To give a quick summary:

In Tray
Mafia II (won)
Way of the Samurai 3 30 453.30
EA Sports MMA 6.20 447.10
Kane & Lynch 2 5 442.10
Indie Story Pack (AYIM, Gish, Jolly Rover, Puzzle Agent, Recettear) 5 437.10
ArmA 2 - Operation Arrowhead 20 422.10
ArmA 2 - British Forces 5 417.10
Metro 2033 5 412.10
Beat Hazard 5 407.10
Age of Empires III complete 0.10 407.00
Alien vs Predator (gifted)
ArmA 2 - Private Military Company 10 397.00

Out Tray (completed):
Battlefield Bad Company 2
Mass Effect
Alpha Protocol
Fable II
Assassin's Creed II

I'm reading the Mass Effect novels at the moment and saw ME2 for 38 at Big W today. I've got a collection of stuff to trade in so I might just get EB or Game to price match and trade for it.

I put in Way of the Samurai 3 and was immediately intimidated by it's remorseless Japaneseness. That game is everything bad about Japanese game design in a tight little bundle. I'm going to give it another shot as the concepts involved (short game time and highly branching story) are awesome, but I can see that shit getting traded towards some AssBro.

I saw WotS at Game before they went out of business, but it was clearly a really fucked up game. I'm not sure it'll ever give you a return. :)

Well I traded in Way of the Samurai 3 after attempting it again and going: "you know what? This game might have an awesome concept, but fuck the Japanese game industry."

Anyhow - following the x-mas Steam sale and a big pile of trade-ins:

World in Conflict: Complete -15 382.00
Mafia II DLCs -6.50 375.50
Blood Bowl: LE -20 355.00
The Polynomial -2.50 352.50
Rainbow 6: Vegas 2 -7.50 345.00
The Oddboxx -12.50 332.50
Super Meat Boy -3.75 328.75
NFS: Hot Pursuit Trade-ins 328.75
AssBro Trade-ins 328.75

The only one on there I'm a bit peeved about the pricing of is BBLE, but I'm hoping to get into the next round of one of the online leagues which will be a nice throwback bit of gaming for me.

And I got given a nice pile of moneys by my mother-in-law to put towards the purchase of a 360S/Kinect bundle along with my wife as a joint present. So STRAK. Tell me what is worthwhile on Kinect

Well I hear all the Kinect games suck because you have to move?

Kinectimals is the worst game I've played so far; its technically really good (the only game that uses dual-hand pointing so far) but the actual game is more an adventure game than anything else.

Kinect Adventures is surprisingly good for a free game; it provides the immediate 'whoa this is way better than the Wii' impression. Stringing the minigames into 'adventures' and having rewards makes the game playable longer than 5 minigames would be otherwise.

Kinect Sports is surprisingly good; instantly way better than 90% of Wii games. The soccer and volleybal in particular are experiences impossible on any other platform (although volleyball will fuck your calves). Boxing is probably the weakest of the sports involved, sadly, and the game suffers the same lack of configuration that Wii Sports had. Want to play two 10-minute halves in soccer? TOO BAD. Want to play a full boxing match on points? TOO BAD. Still, way better than the Wii, very accessible, and pretty strenuous.

Dance Central is fucking great stuff. I've had roomfulls of people playing it and its effortless, fun and gets people being competitive without putting a controller in their hands. Zak can't play it because he has no rhythm, but everyone else loves it.

I want to try the Japanese dance game, cause it seems to have lifeless poser models. :)

EDIT - oh oh oh, I just checked reviews, and yes - it is still impossible for the game industry to talk about dancing games without assuming nobody can dance. PLAYERS FLAIL ABOUT! EMBARASSMENT!

Strangely outside Zak nobody I know experiences this.

The only problem the game has is the lack of playlist and shuffle functions that are standard on other music games. But come on, they have Word Up in the DLC! :)

I haven't tried the other Sport game though, and I've heard some reviews that it's better than the MS one. Maybe I'll go rent it today.
