Ok... this might be worth it just from the names involved.

I have so got to see this, I don't care how bad it might be.
So I stare wistfully at the Lightning for a couple of minutes. Two missiles, sharply raked razor-thin wings, a huge, pregnant belly full of fuel, and the two screamingly powerful engines that once rammed it from a cold start to a thousand miles per hour in under a minute. Life would be so much easier if our adverseries could be dealt with by supersonic death on wings - but alas, Human resources aren't so easily defeated.

At the very least, they know how to make a proper trailer.

I'm sold. Daniel Craig makes a convincing cowboy, Harrison Ford = good entertainment in my book, and it's nice to see aliens in this setting for a change.

I'm actually curious as to how they're going to play this, tone-wise. On the one hand, the fact that the film is called Cowboys and Aliens suggests that it's meant to be somewhat tongue-in-check. On the other, the trailer seemed to indicate that they're going to be playing it strait.

Does anyone know anything about the tone of the graphic novel?

The writers have said that it's more tonally like Unforgiven. I'd think it'll end up less grim than that, but I think it's not going to be really campy. Looks like straightforward western, with aliens.

Makes me think of Outlander - a straightforward fantasy epic... with aliens. It looks better than I'd hoped.

Working with alienoids and amnesias into something like Unforgiven? That's no easy feat and they could easily fuck it up. Doing it campy and "awesome" and ridiculous like a Will Smith action movie, maybe even having giant (alien) mechanical spiders crawl around is easier. But making something out like something Clint Eastwood did? Heh, I'd like to see that.

It actually looks pretty good. There's hard men of the old West, played completely straight. Against an alien invasion complete with abductions, also played completely straight. And it's got James Bond Daniel Craig, and Indiana Jones Harrison Ford in it. Both of whom look like they're playing their roles convincingly (and damn Harrison Ford's gotten old.)

I already want to buy this on Blu-Ray and it ain't even out yet.

Does anyone remember this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Star ... nterprise) ST: Enterprise episode? Because I swear that movie sounds as if it is a prequel to it. More seriously now, seeing them try to make this a straight movie (as opposed to Snakes on a Plane style cheese) might prove to be interesting. What elements are there in the Wild West that could be juxtaposed to an alien invasion? Why, just like the White Man came from far away and took the land away from its natives, now aliens come from far away and do the same. OK, that sounds incredibly hoary now that I think of it, but it's a beginning!

You should know that this is based on a comic book which apparently heavy-handidly make the parallel between the settlers and the aliens. It even had some Indian characters to comment on it, reportedly.

Now I want to see a movie that actually has Indiana Jones and James Bond. Maybe throw in Han Solo, too. And Let's put In Indiana Jones's dad. And the Terminator. And Captain Kirk. And Darth Vader.

Actually, just make a movie of this

As idiotic or B movie-esque the premise may seem, I agree that the trailer manages to capture your imagination.

Also, seeing Ford and Craig together is almost worth the price of the ticket in itself.

And this coming from an avowed Western-movie hater, which speaks volumes on how interesting the approach taken is.
