I think once again we need to define what you mean by terrible political cartoon.

The cartoon requires just one simple jump.

Islamic terrorists are "fleecing" Americans out of their liberty as well as security. And connects it by stating that Americans who choose to scarifice liberty for security deserve none of it.

Its actually a VERY good cartoon if one ignores the artwork and the political message/hypocritical nature.

All right, I've had it.

#1: LEARN TO FUCKING SPELL, YOU ILLITERATE MORON!

#2: DO NOT POST CARTOONS WHEN YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE AT ALL ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE SAYING!

#3: IN FACT, STAY THE FUCK OUT OF THIS THREAD UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR.

Perhaps the all-caps message will sink in? Because you have absolutely no clue about anything and your sole criterion for posting stuff in this thread seems to be that it is something written or drawn by anyone on the right wing, whether accurate or not. Nearly everyone here is sick and fucking tired of it.

The last one makes sense to me - speeding cameras are commonly seen as money-makers, though you have to be retarded to be caught by the fixed ones, and the parking meters are spreading like a plague and their prices constantly increasing.

The first one is really, really terrible. Even beyond the horrible art, it doesn't even try to show why the convention is trouble, it just states it and has some guys not listen (why SHOULD they listen?)

How about when the speed camera margins are set lower than the margin of error on some cars speedo's?

Then you sue.

It's actually no secret some speed cameras are set up purely as a cost collection measure: it's a well known problem in Poland - where the police would set up a camera, then set up a warning some distance before it (so that people slow down and thus are safer), while local governments (because all ticket money goes directly to their coffers, unlike the police) will do shit like set up a new speed limit for no reason in the middle of nowhere and then place a camera right after the sign. The results are not pretty: people brake rapidly and can cause accidents.

As for parking meters, well...I don't mind. They encourage people to conduct their business in the city quickly, and to use public transport as much as possible, reducing congestion.

He's still sore from the whole Ground Zero "mosque" thing, and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is a big thing in the US, so combined the two and got...that. No idea about Santa, though. I think it's an allusion to jihadist beheadings

It's because Santa is the closest he could come to a Christian/Christmas icon. It's pretty obvious that the comic alludes to the evil Muslims destroying Christianity and instituting Sharia law.

If you replaced it with "You have to get your candy from the fat kid I gave all the candy to! It'll trickle down!" "Oh crap a Republican" it would make no difference to the cartoon. Except it'd be accurate.

Just posting this because it struck me how much the Muslim caricature looked like the old Jewish caricatures. That's some irony right there.

How is that terrible?

And any 'caricatureness' of it is very subtle to the point of not being there.

I don't know if I can follow that line of reasoning. The caricature isn't racially diverse enough for you ? At the very least it's supposed to depict an Arab. :wtf:

If it looks vaguely like a Muslim Cleric, and visually communicates to the audience the target of the artists ire, hasn't the image done it's job? I mean we could inventory the "characteristics" of a Muslim and a Jewish caricature, beard, check, turban, check, Jedi robe, check.

That being said, I am not a fan of the sentiment that there is a stereotypical mastermind repressing all the rights of citizens in Egypt and Iran.

Also the pun is trite.

This discussion should be split.

I suppose it's good that you don't know about the common Jew caricatures from decades past. Trust me, beady eyes, large nose, shaggy beard, pointed ears, glasses, many wrinkles, and religious head-coverings are all common aspects of racist Jew caricatures. Here are some examples:

Dominus, how is it the cartoonists' fault that Khamenei looks like a "Jewish stereotype" (he doesn't, not really, and neither does that pic)? Would you also consider the cartoon racist by depicting Obama as black? Do you even realize who Khamenei is? Considering you thought it was a "Muslim caricature," probably not.

Aren't most political cartoons caricatures of varying degrees in the first place? I'd have to agree with fgalkin in that this one is pretty tame in that regard. Certainly not worthy of being labled a "terrible cartoon".

Caricatures are done of stereotypes and obvious and well known public figures (or they are labelled). The cartoon in question does a pretty good job of reproducing Khamenei's features, which actually helped me identify him because I vaguely remembered what he looked like from a picture.

Based on your criteria, the guy happens to look exactly like a stereotype. You can't blame the artist for being racist when the subject HAS objectively speaking all the characteristics.

It'd be like "look at that racist caricature of Michael Jordan, it's so racist! They made him tall, gave him big hands, shaved his head and picture him playing basketball!
