Thought Experiment

You are a mountain climber. You are taking two people on a trip; a Klanswoman pregnant with twins (first trimester, she informed you and assume for the sake of argument she is telling the truth) and an atheist physicist of unknown political persuasion. However, while climbing a steep cliff, the three of you tumble down into onto a rocky ledge. You are relatively uninjured, but the Klanswoman and the physicist are both unconscious and clearly have broken bones. You notice that you can climb up to safety from your position, but not without loosing some rocks that will tumble down onto the ledge, killing whatever is on it. You are only strong enough to take one of them with you, and both are unconscious so they can't fight about who gets to go. In addition, when you return home you can just say that the person you didn't take died instantly to avoid any consequences.

Assume, for the sake of argument, the fetuses of the Klanswoman survived the impact. Now the klanswoman is a hardcore fundie bitch, who fully intends to spread her legacy of intolerance, idiocy, and hatred down to her innocent children. The physicist has no children. You can only save one of them; who do you choose?

I will abstain from picking, because I honestly can't decide.

Save the physicist. He is likely to contribute something to society, while the klanswoman is a useless bitch, her kids will be intolerant assholes, and they're first-trimester so they're not even recognizable as human yet (they don't even have brain stems).

Mind you, this is a severely flawed thought experiment. You have no way of realizing that the woman is pregnant. A first-trimester pregnancy is not visible yet.

Realisticly, I'd have to experience this in real life to decide. Sitting here, warm and comfy, with a gutfull of food, I see no choice. I could say let the fundie whore die, but maybe the atheist physicist is a weasely snob? This sucks, I don' wanna play no more!

The issue isn't her so much as it's her twins. They are genuinely innocent, at this point. If you consider them alive; that's just another aspect of the dilemma.

Or I can just save the physicist.

The tradeoffs:

Save the physicist: a racist dies and a scientist is saved.

Save the klanswoman: if done right, you can have TWO great people for the price of one dead great person. But there's much more challenge, and it's a long-term endeavour.

So I could go either way.

It's unlikely you'll have more influence than their parents. And at best, they'll still be stupid anyway. Let's face it; organizations like the KKK consist of inbred morons, not geniuses. Those embryos were probably the result of her getting drunk and fucking her first cousin.

The confusion in this thread is based on the the premise that all human life is equal in value. Any sane person would chose a Edison or Mozart over a Hitler or Mao, the fact that the difference between the two is of a leseer degree is what is clouding the choice for some people. For the others, its the fact that she's pregant, to them I would say that potentiality is not actuality and to act according to that principle.
