Creepy, spooky, horror vid game music/sound tracks
Does any know where I can DL some creepy, spooky, scary vid game music/sound tracks?.
Going to write a horror/SF story and I would like to have some good tunes to put me in the proper frame of mind.
Thanks in advance for your help.

you can find wicked remixes of almost any VG song you can think of at ocremix dot org.

The existence of scary videogames is theoretical. Most use minimalistic, environmental 'music' so I'm not sure how inspirational they would be.

The Thing soundtrack, if you can find it, is excellent in this regard. Same for the original Alien soundtrack.
Wherever you go, there you are.

Shit like Thief, FEAR, Metro, etc have similar 'environmental' soundtracks if that's what you're after.

oh and the first person to suggest anything from Resident Evil gets shanked.
Generally speaking, even on games that are horrible, the soundtracks tend to be pretty good. where game deisgners fail, composers, by and large, generally don't. (There are some exceptions - so I'll thank you rubes not to toss terrible examples of terrible soundtracks in my face.)

The soundtrack for Eternal Darkness. End of discussion.

Yeah, that's a good one, especially the 'normal world' levels.

The Giygas theme from Earthbound is typically held up as the scariest video game music of all time.

Yes, I'll second (or third) this. However I feel most of the songs on the soundtrack aren't very scary, but they have a nice mood (and they're probably scarier than most other game music, so). The music that plays in-game in the mansion, and especially when zombies start appearing, don't seem to be on the soundtrack though, which is a shame.General Zod wrote:The soundtrack for Eternal Darkness. Ninja edit: Ten minutes later that track actually starts playing here, so never mindDooey Jo wrote:The music that plays in-game in the mansion, and especially when zombies start appearing, don't seem to be on the soundtrack though, which is a shame.
The mansion music as it plays in the beginning still isn't on there though, only parts of it. It's on youtube, however.

This had some pretty unnerving music. But I was listening to it while reading the LP while the sun slowly set on a November evening, so I don't know what the full effect would be.
