TNG, a show to grow up on?

Post by FaxModem1 »

Ok, I was born in 1986, andat the age of 2, I started watcing TNG, I grew to love the characters, the ship, and thei adventures. My question is, is it a good show for a cild to be raised on.

Its just like a cartoon show, only with live action.

If my kids like the show, I dont have any problem letting them watch it. Kids will end up watching what they want anyway.

I said maybe just because the word "want" was in your question. I wouldn't mind if my kids watched TNG but I'm not sure I'd be actively encouraging them to watch it. I assume it would be like it was when I was a kid and I watched TOS reruns with my dad and then later on my own. I don't recall my dad ever saying, "Hey go watch Star Trek" but since he liked it and I liked it I was encouraged to watch it in that fashion.

If the kid wants to, sure, why not. TNG has pros and cons, like most other stuff of TV. Now if the question were Voyager or Ent, the answer is "Hell No"

Why not, I grew up on TNG, and look at how I turned out! :D

*watches as a small laser sight climbs his chest and rests on his head*

Ooh, shiny... *BLAM* *splat*

But to be serious, on average it's much better than some of the shit on TV today.

I wouldn't.
At the current education I have now, I would not have the power to tell my kid why some of the terms and all are wrong and I don't want my kid to turn into a Rabid Trekkie spouting idiotic things.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

If and when I ever have children...

It wouldn't bother me what they watch within reason so long as they understand it's just a show on the tv like any other. Kids can be really quite smart anyway....I doubt they would need even telling that

One example out of millions I see.

Your reasoning is flawed.
"If the facts are on your side, pound on the facts. If the law is on your side, pound on the law. If neither is on your side, pound on the table."

"The captain claimed our people violated a 4,000 year old treaty forbidding us to develop hyperspace technology. Extermination of our planet was the consequence. The subject did not survive interrogation."

Five bucks says that he was the one idiot that kept writing in to Paramount to keep VOY on the air. Also, he was stupid enough to become a fan because of VOY.
