Statement from Director of Prosecution, Ms. Marianne Ny

At a hearing on Tuesday 14 December, Westminster Magistrates Court in London decided that Julian Assange should be granted bail. The decision was appealed by the British prosecutor.

- As I have already stated, I cannot at the moment provide information concerning the development of the matter, as it is handled by British authorities, says Director of Prosecution Ms Marianne Ny.

As soon as new information can be released, it will be published on the web site www.aklagare.se.

Facts about extradition of a person who has been surrendered

Different rules apply within the EU (surrender) and outside the EU (extradition).

Due to general agreements in the European Arrest Warrant Act, Sweden cannot extradite a person who has been surrendered to Sweden from another country without certain considerations.

Concerning surrender to another country within the European Union, the Act states that the executing country under certain circumstances must approve a further surrender.

On the other hand, if the extradition concerns a country outside the European Union the authorities in the executing country (the country that surrendered the person) must consent such extradition. Sweden cannot, without such consen,t extradite a person, for example to the USA.

Has someone in Sweden noticed how all of this looks to the public, finally?

This is pre-WWII. You can sort of tell from the sketch style, from thee way it refers to Japan (Japan in the 1950s was still rebuilding from WWII), the spelling of Tokyo, lots of details. Nothing obvious... except that the upper right hand corner of the page reads "November 1931." --- Simon_Jester
