Operation Flashpoint 2 Mk2: Red River

Post by Commander 598 »

Apparently my hopes weren't dashed enough after they gave up on OFP2, so they're making another one, this time set in NotAfghanistan, I mean Tajikistan.

The game's page (http://www.flashpointgame.com/) just contains an info page and links to youtube and facebook...
Info Page wrote: * Go closer to the experience of the US Marines on campaign with the ultimate tactical infantry shooter
* Stand together with 4 player drop-in drop-out online co-op multiplayer in campaign mode and standalone Fire Team Engagements
* Become immersed in an engrossing narrative which unfolds over three acts in campaign mode
* Play as Grenadier, Scout, Rifleman and Automatic Rifleman classes, each with unique strengths and weaknesses for increased replayability
* Earn and spend XP on weapons, attachments and abilities for each of the fireteam’s specialists
* Call in Combat Support such as Mortars, Howitzers and JDAMs, whilst AH-1Z Helicopters and A-10 Ground Attack Aircraft provide Close Air Support
They added fixed wing this time...maybe.

The email that clued me in also told me that they've at least improved the damage system this time so enormous hi-caliber weapons will actually kill someone this time.

Should I get my hopes up again...?

Why would you? Dragon Rising didn't suck because of the lack of US Marine EXPERIENCZ, and it had multiplayer, and a story, and loadouts.

Seriously, this sounds like sad attempt to grab the COD market by implementing a persistent multiplayer leveling system. Sadly, COD is fun and OFP2 isn't, so it won't work.

Dragon Rising didn't suck because of the game mechanics. It sucked because it was what it was - Dirt with soldiers and guns. No narrative, no atmosphere, storyline sucked, missions were crap and AI was nonexistant. Plus the game was so easy I became bored after the second mission. Oh, and did I mention that the game did the saddest possible attempt at implementing vehicles?

The only fun thing in DR was arty support which was scarce and overkill once used.

If they managed to fix that then... maybe...

But Im not holding my breath.
