There's much less spreadsheetery in ME2.

I think they actually did hit on a reasonably good balance wherein the player choices in weapons, powers, etc. actually produced noticable effects, whereas in ME1, although there were lots more numbers and stats and skill points to spend and shit you didn't actually notice the incremental improvements in your character as you levelled up. Unless you spent that point that unlocked that new ability, the point didn't really seem to make a difference.

You think the questlines are good? They're worse than WoW-level. Uh oh!
Are you critiquing the story or the structure of the quests? What exactly is ME2's writing shit when compared to? Tolstoy? I can think of maybe 2 or 3 games with writing that is as consistently good as ME2. The biggest issue is that most of the characters have Daddy issues, but despite taking place in a game where the main villains are kidnapping people with psychic paralysis inducing bug swarms and then putting them through a slushee machine to use as construction materials for giant spaceworthy cuttlefish with god complexes, it was still the best written and most memorable cast of characters to come out in the last 5 years.

Are you seriously saying ME2's writing is comparable to that of classic literature, or that it doesn't matter if the premise and subplots suck if... you say so? You just declared it the best writing in a game for five years, by fiat, and have the gall to call others arbitrary? :lol: When the overall plot sucks, half the characters at least are written by infants, and there are piles of terrible quests, you can't just handwave and say STARK IS MEEN THEREFORE ME2 STORY BEST!

You're right, everyone likes ME2 and knows that highlighting any criticsm is 'bashing'.

Oh, except the people who are well aware of the game's flaws and are discussing them in this very thread! Needs moar pop psychology and you highlighting your own stupidity!

That's less of a flaw and more a matter of it not matching your tastes. Some people like clear-cut heroes and villains, others don't mind it. You, apparently, don't like it.

To the spreadsheet point, I heard an interesting take on what ME3 might involve. Assuming the reaper attack on earth takes place during the last 1/3rd of the game, and assuming this game uses a similar mechanic to 2 RE: story (Which it almost certainly will) Peep this: All big decisions from ME1-3=%damage reduction on earth. Save the Rachni? -10% damage to earth (Since they are almost certainly going to "Come to the rescue") Get rid of the genophage and not kill Wrex? -15% damage to earth Sacrifice the council? -10% damage to earth.


Just a theory but given how Bioware initially fooled at least me with ME2's Endgame (i.e. appearing to have loads of variables when it was actually depressingly binary) I wouldn't put it past them, which makes me a sad panda.
