MJOLNIR Armours vs. KATARN Armour

Re: MJOLNIR Armours vs. KATARN Armour
I'm pretty sure that infinite .45 rounds fired at a battleship over an infinite timescale WILL destroy the battleship, even if it's only liberating 1 atom every 1 trillion hits. A more correct thing to say would be that it is not a fallacy to say that armor can be functionally immune to a certain weapon, i.e. immune over plausible battlefield timescales.
A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.
At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.
The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'
'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

I agree, I just wanted to be 100% sure that people were seeing that Spartan armor falls to modern style rounds.Batman wrote:Not from what I can tell. My point was that no, shooting at armour continually will NOT inevitably 'dent' and destroy it. fajner1 seems to be under the impression that armour can always be worn down no matter how little your firepower if you keep at it long enough, which simply isn't true. This was not supposed to refer to the SPARTAN armour specifically, which I think by now has pretty well been established as not being invulnerable to in-universe 7.62 rounds. All I was trying to get across was that it is decidedly possible for armour to be invulnerable to them.
Oh yeah. I made the cannon/canon mistake, but I think I'll be able to recall the two as separate now thanks to your barb.Even the World's Greatest Detective makes typos at times. Also, it's infinite, with an i between the n and the t; not infinte.
And while you were absolutely entitled to that dig, the canon/cannon thing just irritates me because it's so common.

If you want to be anal about it, over an infinite timescale simply ignoring it will defeat battleship armour as it is going to decay away all by its lonesome, but I think we agree on it being possible for armour to be effectively invulnerable to certain weapons.'m pretty sure that infinite .45 rounds fired at a battleship over an infinite timescale WILL destroy the battleship, even if it's only liberating 1 atom every 1 trillion hits. My point is that, as adam_grif said, firing bullets at any armour does dent it, if only on a microscopic scale.

I seriously doubt that, but by all means feel free to show me wrong.fajner1 wrote:My point is that, as adam_grif said, firing bullets at any armour does dent it, if only on a microscopic scale.

So where can I enjoy the Halo universe where the Chief is bullet proof ? I would love a Halo game to follow Halo canon where the Chief is bullet proof, runs at superspeed and can activate matrix like bullet time.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Nah I am just pointing out Versus debate Halo is nothing like the Halo games. Its obviously another game universe which happens to share the name.

So true, though most of the fappery comes from the books which are lesser cannon from the games. Thus when MC shrugs off autocannon rounds in the books but not in the games we can safely call BS on at least that part of the book.Sarevok wrote:Nah I am just pointing out Versus debate Halo is nothing like the Halo games. If I were to kick a skyscraper, the atoms inside would move a tiny fraction, as the energy would be transfered to them. Thats what I mean by dent.I seriously doubt that, but by all means feel free to show me wrong.

Are you people still not done coming up with a real world explanation for hitpoint based damage mechanic in games ?

Wasnt this site formed because of the SWvST argument, where you have to try and more-or-less explain things?Sarevok wrote:Are you people still not done coming up with a real world explanation for hitpoint based damage mechanic in games ?
