Both fighter pilots and snipers are different roles, but they're both military combat roles. Comparing them is hardly the same as comparing a Senator and a Tank Commander.
So include more than one set of main characters, pilots and marines, and try to achieve a roughly equal number of episodes where they get centre-stage. If you really need to have them both on-screen at once, having Bill Adama and his wingmates drafted in to fly the dropship wouldn't stretch SoD too far.

Incidentally, I seem to recall hearing that a couple of Members of Parliament served in Iraq with the Territorial Army, so civilian politicians serving as soldiers isn't completely ridiculous either.
There are hardly any excesses of the most crazed psychopath that cannot easily be duplicated by a normal kindly family man who just comes in to work every day and has a job to do.

Replace "ginger" with "n*gger," and suddenly it become a lot less funny, doesn't it?

Did they go to Iraq while they were sitting MPs? I mean, I know Paddy Ashdown used to be in the SBS, but that's different.

edit; one was Desmond Swayne, MP.

"No. I think I'd find it a bit small and wierd."
"Aren't they dangerous? Don't they get hit by stuff?"
