That is definitely a good thing. All the space opera and gritty nBSGs and ERECT sci-fi are cool and all, all the Vietnam in space craps and rusty broken down ship that looks like the inside of a factory warehouse but in SPAAAACE aesthetics, sure. But I think one of the coolest and more visionary and truly fantastic versions of sci-fi existed in the late-70s early-80s with the trademark aesthetics of the time, the "on LSD/acid" style of sci-fi like we see in David Lynch's Dune - or Alejandro Jodorowsky's aborted attempt at Dune with a deranged Salvador Dali as the Emperor and Pink Floyd making the soundtrack. The old zany bizarre utterly mad and fantastic approach to sci-fi was totally awesome and would totally revitalize the genre. We need dat shit mang.

It helps that during that time, folks were doing sci-fi on shoestring budgets and needed to be "creative". Which is a bit like the Doctor Who series. Now, if only those BBC crews practiced recreational drug use... :)

I really liked it, was all Christmasy for me.
And I really, really like the new Doctor theme; the music was brilliant again.

For whatever reason, on the 2nd or 3rd Christmas Eve when the Doctor and Kazron opened the cryo-coffin while wearing fezzes, I just about fell out of the couch laughing. I was hoping Abigail would ask them what on earth they were wearing, just hear the Doctor explain the fezzes are cool again.
