That is definitely a good thing. All the space opera and gritty nBSGs and ERECT sci-fi are cool and all, all the Vietnam in space craps and rusty broken down ship that looks like the inside of a factory warehouse but in SPAAAACE aesthetics, sure. But I think one of the coolest and more visionary and truly fantastic versions of sci-fi existed in the late-70s early-80s with the trademark aesthetics of the time, the "on LSD/acid" style of sci-fi like we see in David Lynch's Dune - or Alejandro Jodorowsky's aborted attempt at Dune with a deranged Salvador Dali as the Emperor and Pink Floyd making the soundtrack. It helps that during that time, folks were doing sci-fi on shoestring budgets and needed to be "creative". Which is a bit like the Doctor Who series. Now, if only those BBC crews practiced recreational drug use...
