Unknown. Although there is speculation that it could be a "Whill" an imagined character from a very early draft of ANH. But I don't buy into that anyways. I doubt GL is going to reveal it in EpIII, or anytime soon.

But any true Star Wars should have already known that!

The Whills are a race/collective of omnipotent and/or omniscient beings/entities that recorded the history of SW. Or so one theory goes. Hence from ANH..."Journal of the Whills."

An excellent fanfic was written about them and their prophecy.

The TimeTales chronology has an interesting theory on them themselves.

It could be plausable, since we know absolutely nothing about the Whills except maybe early drafts and that tidbit in the ANH novelisation.

It's supposed to be a mystery.

However, in EP1 we see a younger member of Yoda's species, called Yaddle.

Some people claim that he might be a Whill, but nobody truly know what a Whill is.

As far as I know, the Whills have never been mentioned inside of any Star Wars publication (as in during the story), which makes sense.

And I think the only major mention of the Whills and the Journal of the Whills is in the opening pages of the Star Wars novelisation, which just says that the story is part of The Adventures of Luke Skywalker, part of the Journal of the Whills.

The second and third drafts for The Star Wars' script starts with: And in time of greatest despair there shall come a savior and he shall be known as: THE SON OF THE SUN" ("Journal of the Whills," 3:12).

Lucas says that he originally wanted the story being told by someone else, like a story out of the Bible, or such. The concept behind the Whills soon evolved into the Force.

The idea that the Hyperspace Aliens could be the Whills just facinates me. It almost makes sense if you think about it. Not only to they construct the Corelian System and the Maw, they also travel through time and space to bring Humans into the Galaxy from Earth, settling them on Corelia. Then they disappear through the Maw into another dimension, where they record the history of the Galaxy and their experiment as it unfolds.

It's part of an early draft, see the Spanky's link and a copy of the ANH novelisation. They left it in there too. At least mine.

Hyperspace Aliens is a fan-created name for a species of aliens that are never actually featured in any of the EU.

Most fans pretty much believe that the same species build both the Corellian System (using Centerpoint Station to pull planets from across the Galaxy through Hyperspace), featured in the Corelian Trilogy, and the Maw (a cluster of at least a dozen black holes) from the Jedi Academy Trilogy. They had to exist at least two million years before the events of the films, and not a single trace of their existance is present other then those three constructs, and it is thought that they might have disappeared through the Maw, possibly into another dimension.

And since it's a general consensus that Humans in the Galaxy are from Earth, some fans like myself speculate that the Hyperspace Aliens might have traveled through time and space (with the Maw) and collected some Humans from Earth, to settle them on Corellia. They then travel through the Maw into another dimension, never to be seen or heard from again.

Actually, they've existed since WEG. And you can see them in ROTJ.

Ok, these Hyperspace Aliens brought humans from a galaxy far, far away, made a solar system, dumped these kidnapped humans there then made a deadly maze of black holes and buggered off into it? And how long ago did you say they did this? I think I saw the number 2 million somewhere (I may be wrong about that), back then they wouldn't have been human anyway... How did they get these primates to the galaxy? Another Centre Point station or something similar? How would they know how to make these things if they wouldn't need them? It's a nice little story, but I don't think so.... The question of the Centre Point station and the planetary thrusters probably won't ever be answered, but thats no reason to make up a new spicies that have never even been hinted at and give them the credit.
At least I had a reason to think that the Trade Federation ahd something to do with the Death Star, even if it was wrong.
