Modern Warfare mod for WiC

Post by Stark »

The guy that makes this mod is insane; JSF's theory is that he really, really wants a job at Boeing. While it started out as just a typical 'more modern stuff' mod for WiC, it has turned into a simulation of AA radar modes, datalinks and missiles, all without impacting the flow of the base game.

In short, it's WiC with modern units. They've changed some things around (like tank designations, helicopter types, etc) and sorted some things (like everyone has heavy arty and MRLS now). The more impressive features are implementation of very modern and sophisticated systems in a way that doesn't slow the game down, like area air defence or trophy systems. The gun-AA units now have about a dozen tracking modes for different targets, SAMs can be (and need to be) networked into your ADS, missiles talk to each other to ensure no double-up on targets, etc. Choppers have variable altitude and need to be flown more actively, to either score roof hits with rockets or fire Hellfire-2s indirectly at designated targets. The introduction of cruise missiles and ballistic missile defence has made it a bit crazy, but with all this added complexity its still playable just like regular WiC, only with MRLS cluster munitions and amazing air combat.

Modern Warfare mod for WiC

Anyone who enjoyed WiC should give it a go; it's worth it just to see how much 'sim' you can pack into an RTS without interrupting it, and it looks amazing.

Recently they've added most of the active systems to the T-90; automatically triggered smoke and the Shtora-1. vid
The American units have tended to recieve the most attention, so this is pretty neat. The Hellfire-2 datalink stuff is pretty cool, though. vid

Has there been any recent updates?

He even fucking made helicopters land for loading/unloading troops.

EDIT: Which is pretty insignificant, but sort of shows how much fucking effort the guy puts into this thing.

Update 4 was the last one, I think; so nothing for a few weeks at least. Amusingly, he's smart enough to tell people who say air and artillery are unbalanced now to just shut up; it takes a lot more skill to use air than it used to. I mean, NO ESCAPE ZONES? :V

As someone who's still learning how to beat easy AI on WiC consistently, this sounds AWESOME!

I'm pretty sure the bots cheat their asses off, at least fog-of-war wise.

And oh man, Zak's picture on their FB is the worst. :)

It is strange that their support is always in exactly the right place well behind my lines....

Think about it.

Cruising low in my N-1 blasting phat beats,

Got my 'saber on my belt and my gat by side,

How is the demo supposed to let him know how good this mod is?
A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.

At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.

The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'

'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

Because presumably he hasn't even played the base game yet and the demo would help him decide whether he likes it in the first place before dropping 20 bucks to play a mod.

Superficial? I hate base Half-Life 2, it sucks big time. Mods make all of the difference. Same with Fallout.

Try answering the question, fuckwit. WiC isn't played like other RTS games, and people raised on them often don't like it. That's why I recommended you tried it before you paid for it.

Actually, your response is an answer; you clearly haven't played it. I'm glad idiot have hijacked the thread from 'look at the sophisticated scripting in this mod that allows real-world behaviours without slowing down the game' to I PLAY TEH RTZ MANG.

Yeah comparing WiC to other RTS games is pointless. Unless you are comparing it to Ground Control 1 or Force 21.

Spent a few minutes inthe mod checking out networked theatre SAM defences. WHIVH ARE AWESOME.

Being able to slave my SAMS to an ingame AI so I can micro arty is great.

WiC makes an awesome AI battle screensaver even if you can't play it yourself.

I might get back into playing WiC more if this mod sounds as promising as it is. Would anyone here be up for some mulitplayer games?

The battle network stuff is ridiculous; using FAC to spot tanks so choppers can fire indirect hellfire 2s is the funnies. The screensaver chaos is even more interesting now, with giant flashing lock indicators and PAC-3s and cruise missiles going everywhere. Every effect looks better now.

I know half a dozen people who have the mod, but nobody who plays regualrly. I guess we'd have to arrange a time.

Yeah I'd only be able to play every now and then, so arranging times beforehands good with me.
