Really big robots week
Or something like that. Cartoon Network next week is going to have big robots week. They didn't 'list' what's going to be on. They just say in the preview, 'From the latest, to the greatest.' However if scenes are any indication, then the old bw Gigantor cartoons will be on, (hopefully the newer ones that were on Sci Fi early in it's day.). Robotech, some other strange shit, and what im sure will be a watered down, Neon Genesis Evangelion. I hope to hell for Spanky's sake that NGE is good. Heh. I ain't seen it before, so I'm getting anxious.

It's the dub and its likely going to be censored considerably. It won't be anywhere near as good as the true version.DG_Cal_Wright wrote:Or something like that. My big robot will kick all other robots asses employing its secret "feasibility" based weapons.

Oh, im sure there will be hell to high water. but when youve never seen the originals, then in the case of NGE, if it's good, it will weather the storm.

I don't even want to know how badly they've butchered Eva. Considering they changed the name of the Devil Gundam in G Gundam, and changed "In the name of God ye not guilty" to "In the name of good ye not guilty" for Big O, there is no way in hell that Eva, with all of its references to Judeo-Christian lore, is be to be unscathed. Whew that was a mouthful.
Fragment of the Lord of Nightmares, release thy heavenly retribution. Blade of cold, black nothingness: become my power, become my body. Together, let us walk the path of destruction and smash even the souls of the Gods! RAGNA BLADE!

They also changed God Gundam to Burning Gundam. (although I personally liked the new name, that's besides the point)Darth Yoshi wrote:I don't even want to know how badly they've butchered Eva. I really can't stand G Gundam, so whatever they've done to it, doesn't bother me. Like I said, they might have to butcher it up some, but I feel it should still be good. Then after I get all 'hyped' I'll start watching the 'originals'. It sorta fucks with me on Cowboy Bebop now with the subtitled on my comp and the dubbed on CN. That reminds me, CN was showing the episode with the terrorist who blows up buildings. I was amazed. heh.

Re: Really big robots week
They're only showing the first two episodes, dubbed. Supposedly, ADV has demanded that those be uncut, but you can never be sure. There wasn't much to cut in those episodes anyway.Durran Korr wrote:It's the dub and its likely going to be censored considerably. It won't be anywhere near as good as the true version.
Other shows on the lineup next week are Nadesico, Dai-Guard, and Robotech. Funny how all of these shows are owned by ADV.
CN is also airing the Samurai X TV series (AKA Rurouni Kenshin) starting in March. No word on how censored it will be.

NGE might not suffer too bad if it gets on Adult Swim, same with Samurai X

This was the most recent thread on the subject, so I'll just bump it...
So, they have run both of their NGE episodes. Editing was light in the first episode, as I expected, but I underestimated what they would do with the second episode.
Edits, off the top of my head:
Episode 1:
Cut: Misato's "Damn" at the beginning of episode.
Edit: "Check this out" indicating Misato's cleavage in Shinji's picture of her.
Cut: UN dude's "Damn it".
Cut: Rei's blood on Shinji's hand.
Episode 2:
Cut: Blood spraying out of Shogoki's head. Blood on the building she is slumped against left in.
Cut: Misato's "It's not like I'm going to put the moves on him" and the following exchange with Ritsuko.
Edit: All beer cans changed to blank blue.
Big Cut: Shot of the mess in Misato's apartment showing liquor bottles, Shinji looking at the contents of the refridgerator, and Shinji wondering about PenPen's room.
Cut: Misato's first drink of her beer.
Cut: Shinji and Misato dividing chores. Misato's "Now for the next one" at beginning of scene left in.
Big cut: Shinji meeting PenPen. Jumps straight from Misato's suggestion that he take a bath to shot of him in the bath.
Cut: Misato from the right side as she bathes.
Edit: Bathing suit put on Misato in shots of her from left and above.
Cut: Same as first cut.
Cut: Shogoki breaking Sachiel's wrists. Sachiel's hands being torn off as she kicks it away left in.
Cut: Bloody portion of Shogoki tearing open Sachiel's abdomen. Can still see the part before the spray of blood.
I'm somewhat surprised that they left in Shogoki's right eye regenerating.

Anime News Network is listing the edits for both Evangelion and Nadesico, with the latter getting edits that haven't been seen since the early days of Toonami.
And I still stand at my position that Eva is unairable for regular network television.

I'm surprised the plotline of NGE isn't butchered as well by the editors.
